GOTCHA!!by dphillipsComment: This shot has potential. I think the main thing that could be improved is the focus. If you look at the wing on the right, or the bee's abdomen, those appear to be more in focus than the torso or head of the bee. I would also try a lower angle (less straight on at the flower) and to the front of the bee. It would add a little 3D effect to it. Plus, if you keep the shallow DOF, the head would be sharp while the abdomen would be slightly blurred, thus adding more to the 3D effect. |

squashby buzzmomComment: I find that I actually like this picture much better if I sit back from the screen a ways. I dunno what that means... maybe it's a tad blurry and sitting back hides that fact? |

Mango margarita studyby nomad469Comment: This just seems too blurred... I don't know if it is lack of focus or motion blur. Maybe a tiny bit of USM combined with an increase in contrast would fix it up. I also wonder if the color version might have been better. |

Refreshmentby TroyMosleyComment: I haven't really figured out what this is... and I suppose it isn't necessary to know. But it seems blurred enough that I have trouble focusing on it, which is my main reason for a lower than average score. So sorry. |

Nightvisionby gothgirl83Comment: For me, this isn't a macro... isn't really too close up... and, well, with the inverted colors, just doesn't seem like it belongs here. So sorry. |

Blue-eyed Darner (Aeshna multicolor)by vtruanComment: What I wanna know is ... how do you hold him still long enough to get the eyes and body in focus while the wings are buzzing like that?!?!?!?!? Nice shot. Good luck! |

stepping stonesby nbortonComment: Very nice! I've wanted to try one of those lensbabies ... I'm just afraid I'll look like a total geek walking around with a 20D and a lensbaby on. How do you deal with that?!? :-)

Three in One Macro by FalcComment: Nice... the angled line across the image with the ladybug on it would have been enough. But then to throw an interesting OOF, but still recognizable, background into the image is a great idea. And then to focus the OOF background through then "lens" of a drop of water... killer idea! My only complaint is that I was hoping for a little more close-up (closer to macro's 1:1 sizing). Still, I love this image and hope to see it place high! Good luck!
Returning to say my pick for top 3. |
