SMALL, but MIGHTY eye catching (flower in stones)by jcclucciComment: Interesting shot. I kind of like it. The color definitely stands out, and works well with the greys/neutral tones of the rest of the scene. The centered composition works very well in this case IMO. Not sure how the mass of voters will see it, it seems usually people favor crisp sharp pics, but I like it. A neat effect, I'm curious did you achieve this in camera or gaussian blur or something like that in editing? If you have the time and care to answer, feel free to PM me. |

The Watcherby DamianComment: Nice shot. I like the composition, works well for me. Nice conversion to b/w IMO. The photo has good tone and a definite "mood". The shadows coming in from the top right really help to make the shot. I hope the mass of voters don't slam ya for it, but I think the cat ads a lot to the shot. Gives it like some context or a connection, and something to wonder about. Very nice job, I like it. |

Last Lightby BudComment: Good photo. It has nice lines. The barrel adds a lot IMO, ads a nice secondary subject and helps to draw the eye into the structure. Great colors, processing or did it really look like that? either way, pretty cool. The gold and purple really work together well for me. Looks like lighting wise, you chose a really good time of day. Great job. |

The Ruins Of The Abandonedby MissyTiComment: I think this is a good subject that has some potential. There definitely is some color and texture going on. Lighting/exposure is pretty good. Focus seems like it could be sharper. The composition feels very static and lacking to me though. Perhaps a more stimulating angle or perspective would make a greater impact. |

Dayton (My First Entry)by jdw_picsComment: Hi :-) and welcome to the challenges. A cute picture of the boy. Actually a good idea, incorporating the child with the building in the shot. It seems you have a good eye, the shot is framed well, and you've avoided any unneccessary background clutter. For me it has potential to provide an emotional, human connection to the photo. But I'm afraid for many voters it may not be obvious enough, perhaps showing a little more building would provide more context. If you for example had a composition where the boy is looking at the building, like a new generation studying the old, something along that line. Color and exposure not too bad. The boy's pose feels a little uncomfortable and forced, with him leaning so sharply. The photo seems like it could be a little sharper, either crisper focus, or using a tripod or support (if you didn't) can help. Also can be sharpened a little in post processing (photoshop or whatever program you use). Also, when submitting your photo, it's usually a good thing to use the full 640 pixel size allowed or as large as possible. Most voters want to see full size shots, and it really optimally brings out the detail and texture of a shot. There are some pretty good tutorials on these things on the site, and asking questions in the forums usually provides some great help. Anyways, again welcome and have fun :-), this is a great place to learn, and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future. |

Ghost Shipyardby DanielCzajaComment: It seems you have a good eye for composition here. Good perspective and an interesting subject, very fitting for the challenge IMO. It seems like the focus could be a little sharper and the size could be larger, strengthening the apparently rich detail and texture present. Also, the lighting seems just a tad harsh. Perhaps catching a different time of day would be better. Mornings and evenings are usually pretty good times lighting wise for outdoor shooting. |

Silent Sentryby datcatComment: I find this a pretty composition. Good eye. I really like the white tree, and there is some nice color and tones in the grasses and bushes. Focus seems like it could maybe be a tad sharper but not too bad. I'm mainly wondering if perhaps with different adj. with levels or curves, you could get more "pop" out of the main subject, the tower? |

Cautionby MatthewComment: Interesting perspective here. I like the composition. Good dof too. Did you use a little bit of selective desatting here? If so, nice job, tastefully done and works well in this case IMO. Good texture in your subject here also. The photo has a nice "feel" to it I find. Nice job. |

Plank Houseby eaemthomasComment: You've got a good idea going here. Catching the foiage/trees does ad some interest and nice vivid green coloring here, but in this case it might be just a bit too much. Seems to be kind of obscuring your main subject a little too much. Perhaps also framing out a bit of the foreground grass might help some too. Maybe keeping in mind the idea, but finding a different angle/perspective, showing more of the structure, but still with some trees/greenery would make for a stronger photo. |
