Moraine-Lk-aka-CDN-20-dolla.jpgby TessComment: This is an absolutely stunning composition. What a gorgeous scene. And you have framed it just oh so nicely. Good detail. The lines of the trees and their reflection are just great, they take your view right into the image. Very nice! The sky does seem a little washed out, but in this case, I see it as a minor thing. Actually just looks like it's kind of misty at the mountain tops. There are a couple of tricks you can try on flat, washed or blown out skys. One, especially if there is not a lot of sky, is to select the sky, then pick a fitting shade of blue, and paint it with the paintbrush tool. Then do a little bit of burning to 'break' it up, and drop the opacity of that layer way down til it looks right. Another method is to again select the sky, pick a blue for foreground color, then apply a linear gradient, set on foreground to transparent, and then drop the opacity of the layer. You do have to watch when doing this when there is water and reflections present, that they (the reflection and actual sky) still match and don't end up looking way un-natural. Also in this image, I would probably tweak levels a little and try to strengthen the light to dark range, and add a little depth, but that's just me :-). Anyway, very nice work Tess. Beautiful photo, you've got a good eye. |

Aqua Velvaby TessComment: A nice shot here. What a beautiful location. The mountains do make a great backdrop, and the stream has a really nice curve and leads the eye into the photo nicely. A very nice composition. I have to agree, that little bit of water in the corner kind of throws things off just a little. Looks like in your edit, you maybe selected the water and worked on it? The water looks nice, but it seems that you can see the edges of the selection. Maybe try playing with the feathering of your selection tool. You said you were conveniently close to this location? I think this would be great to do a 'study' of so to speak. Go and take the same shot at different times under different lighting conditions. Could make a great tool to learn how different times of day, different light, exactly how it affects the scene. I also agree, might make for a good b/w too! Great eye though, it is a very nice shot. :-) And man, it sure does smell good!!! Message edited by author 2005-08-28 05:42:49. |
