If this was in "unusual perspective" I'd have scored it an 8 or 9....

I think this has real nice commercial potential if blown up larger, to poster-size.

To all the people who don't think it fit the challenge...

"Feeding the animals" is a bad habit...*sheesh*...I figured viewers would figure that out...next time I know it's better to simply put it BLUNTLY in the title.

We were in Balboa Park and every animal we came across my mom insisted on feeding. Sadly, i think a lot of people knocked me for this...

Live and learn...sadly, my latest submission didn't get finished until 10 minutes too late for submission into three...so being so annoyed at these stupid time restraints that keep killing my best photo submissions. I just submitted it to sports. Technically, it IS a sport....

SWORDFIGHTING!!!

Yeah, okay, so it's not a modern sport but it was quite the popular team sport a few centuries back....

The sky was a touch hazy this day...sadly, such is not something in my control.

"Hey God....clear the haze will ya...I'm trying to take a bloody photo!"

(just didn't seem like it would work)

This is my second submission. I am actually happy with the result. At first I was disappointed with a 5. But then i realized that the top photos are usually only in the sevens. Um...I would really like to know why two people gave it only a "2". The threes I can grin and swallow. But I do not feel that the two 2's were warranted. Probably didn't effect the score too much.

I had another that I would have loved to submit but was one day outside the entrance. I swear, it is so neat I might submit it anyways for a contest and who cares if it gets DQ'd. It was a trick photo. Incorporating a palm tree and a lighted chandelier. I managed to make it look like the chandelier is floating like a crown upon the palm tree in broad daylight.

I really wished DP had like a 3 month "Best Of" or even the ability for a person to list their 10 personal best and have people rate them. That would be COOL!

A further note...

I find the toughest part of dpchallenge so far is the short period for submission. I often have a great photo taken a few weeks prior that I could submit but trying to get a photo submitted in the meager one week window is a challenge. This was taken shortly after getting home from work on the last day of the challenge submission date. The sun was beginning to set and as such my time was limited for capturing this exposure. The camera had no shutter control so I really couldn't adjust for lighting. But I do appreciate the feedback. What I'd have given to have had my E-20 at the time and a nice freighter moving down the channel for the foreground....

By the way...this was taken a block away. So it's hard to make it an "interesting" harbor.

I got quite a few awesome shots while on vacation. Even a trick photography shot that is an amazing blending of a lighted chandalier inside a hotel and a palm tree outside. Sadly, by the time I got home there was not much time to submit my photo. As they were all taken the week before. I find this constraint extremely frustrating?

I am just wondering how many here work full time and do other activites than photography and still get time to submit?

This was my first entry....sadly, the camera used had no ability to focus, zoom, etc. So I find the 4.8 rating fairly respectable. I still like the angles on the shot.

I do want to thank all of you who gave input,...it is very appreciative. I am fairly new to photography and definite appreciate the insight provided.

I just wish I had had more time and could have used my Olympus E20. Perhaps I'll retake this shot with the E20N and post a link here. The E20 will give me some control on exposure, focus, etc.
