I'm sorry. There have been a bunch of pet-nose-pictures here lately. None of them have knocked my socks off. So this photo was handicapped from my point of view from the start. Having said that, it does a pretty good job making me feel the texture of the fur in the top 2/3 of the photo. It is well lit. Tonal range is good. And it avoids the all-too-common-sin in this challenge of over sharpening. Soft focus due to shallow DOF in the bottom 1/4 of the photo weakens the overal impact for me. You exhibited good technical talent with this. Keep shooting, learning and improving. And watch your scores improve!

This could have been an interesting shot. But lighting wasn't your friend. The lighting is pretty harsh. It is from a direction that created minimal shadows, and hence the true texture wasn't revealed very much. IMHO, this would have been a better photo in natural light near sunrise or sunset when the light is low in the sky. That would bring out the texture. I am also curious about the background, black in the photo. What would have been revealed with higher ambient light?
