Past Childhood

Comment:
This evoked a strong emotional reaction in me. The focus and exposure on the dolls is perfect. Perhaps it was on purpose, but the model feels a bit over exposed. If her focus and exposure were as good as the dolls, it would go up a couple of notches for me.

I can see why you liked this subject, I like it too! But it looks to me like you've gone overboard with editing ... possibly an HDR experiment ... leaving distracting halos around the building and to a lesser degree, the wagon. HDR seems to be the wave of the future, but I'd suggest backing off a bit.

Nice action shot ... right place, right time. Degree of difficulty is great. In the end, it feels flat to me, however. If focus were sharper on the players, it would go up several points in my opinion.

Interesting portrait, pretty model, good composition. It might be just a bit over exposed, and I can't ignore the distracting catchlights in her eyes.

I can so see this on a Starbucks wall. Or in a magazine ad. It is well executed. Here without context, though, I fear it will not score as well as you might have hoped.

I live in Seattle and find the subject familiar and pleasing. But it isn't a subject that holds my interest. Turn your photography skills toward a stronger subject, and I think you'll do well here.

Okay, I get the shell, the bottom, the water. Light on the bottom is nice. Colors on the shell are nice. Composition is okay. But the subject fails to hold my interest.

I very much like the colors and the reflections! It conveys an impressionistic feeling which I like. But compared to other entries, the subject feels weak to me, or at least fails to hold my interest.

Smeaton's Tower

Comment:
This is an unusual perspective on a lighthouse. Focus is good. DOF is good. The halo effect may be from the sun behind it, but IMO detracts. Saturation is good. Contrast is good. My personal issue with it is that the subject is weak, or at least fails to hold my interest.

Comment:
The composition well follows classic rule-of-thirds guidelines. I like high contrast images, generally, and the contrast appeals to me. Technicals (focus, DOF, et al) are fine. My personal issue with the image is the subject, which isn't very interesting to me ... or at least doesn't hold my interest.
