Panorama in 4:3by GeneralEComment: I tried a couple of things to bring out the dynamic range in this image... for Basic Editing, Adding a Channel Mixer at 120/-10/-10 definitely brought out the contrast a bit more; the image could be re-duotoned from that. For Advanced Editing, duplicating the layer, setting to Multiply mode, and adding a white-black-white vertical gradient added a nice sense of richness to the image, and helped out the sky a lot. In both cases I finished up with a USM at 60%, .3 radius, 0 threshold.
I'm another member of the crowd that thinks that this is a good picture and conceptually strong, just not presented quite as well as it might have been. |

Piss Angelby treenodeComment: one of the few I've seen so far w/o the artist's name in the title - that can actually get away without the reference by name. Subject-wise, I have to say I'm not a fan of shots that focus primarily on figurines... I feel like it's kind of like taking a macro of a dollar bill. In this case, it's like a macro of a dollar bill in a jar of urine. (Were you faithful to your title?)
The original photo derived a lot of its power from its sanguine color and careful use of texture and light - not to mention that it's a crucifix with the hanging body of Christ in a jar of piss. No angel can equal the impact of the Son of God for impact in this context.
I wonder what you learned while making this picture.
Aside from those two points, one of which is definitely personal bias and the other of which may be needlessly comparative, I think this is a good picture. There's enough detail to hold interest - and a well-placed highlight on the halo - with enough obscured to create a sense of depth and mystery. The diffuse lighting through the liquid creates an eerie glowing effect around the figurine. It will be interesting to see how this one scores. |

Ansel Adamsby fredandaudComment: Composition is very nice. Processing-wise, this is close, but not quite right for an AA tribute. The horizon line has a visible glow from processing and the blacks and whites are just a bit too solid to the point of detail loss. A more carefully reprocessed version would be a nice thing to see. |

Rain Squaredby GringoComment: whoa, this is gnarly. is this a photo, or digital art? I really can't tell. The perspective on the umbrella and the person against the perfect grid is totally throwing me off. Very cool. |
