great choice of subject. there is a great deal of interest in a natural object like the bark of a tree. but with regard to execution:
- the narrow DOF makes a large part of the image 'dead space' without any apparent benefit for the area that is in focus.
- the angle and tilt of the photo are kind of disconcerting to me. i find myself wishing that the orientation were more vertical or horizontal.
- the drop shadow border does not aid the presentation.

the umbrella in the forefront is so dominant that I can't help but see it as the subject of this photograph. It's a beautiful photo with great colors and good composition, but I have to ring the DNMC bell on this one.

great choice of subject- very eerie and evocative. it would have been nice if you could have done something about the purple fringing (or at least, the purple colors look unnatural/unintentional)... and the focus is rather soft, verging on blurry.

I think that the people crossing the street, namely the couple, are the subjects of this photo. My eye went straight to them. Aside from that, the image appears to be oversharpened.
