Softlyby RKTComment: Tender portrait, beautifully processed and splendidly off-centered. |

Sloth Styleby LuciemacComment: I very much like the swirling tones that offer up this sweet, sleeping face. As if van Gogh had toured Central/South America. |

Lace-Winged by gintayComment: Amazing conception and photograph. The shallow depth of field is all it takes to establish the transparent, reticulated wing of this insect (dragonfly?), like a curtain that's meant to reveal. The insect seems to slink past itself, Gollum-like, before a bright background. It's an allegory that can sail off in countless directions. It's cropped to its essence. My personal favorite in this challenge. |

forestby skewsmeComment: Cropping tight a mountain might yield acres, while to crop tight a mustard seed might only yield, well, something mighty tiny. Here a tree is cropped tight, yielding its roots and a portion of the trunk. So somewhere in the middle, with a sly glimpse of the forest in the upper left. To the extent that the intent of cropping tight may also be to induce people to pay closer attention, I feel that this photo is exhilarating. It's the elaborate profusion of interacting, flowing and seemingly chance dispersal of life that so moves me. Besides wonderful composition, it's the high contrast, silvery processing that draws one in. Such a view is a privilege. So a second personal favorite in this challenge, if that's possible. |

Seagazerby rosegardenComment: Sorry about my "centered horizon" mistake --- I was looking at an abbreviated version of your image limited by the size of my monitor's screen. |

GreatShip Manishaby ThingFishComment: Great presence here. Looks like a bulldog with an under-slung jaw contemplating rushing the viewer. |

Start lineby SistoComment: The contrast of these funny-looking (to me, at least) crafts with a gorgeous sunrise brings on a smile. It's an affirmation of the world in all its variety. Quite sumptuous, in its own way. The pier frames the photo nicely on the right. |
