So much incredible reflections and swirls to be seen in water, an endless play of light and shifting contour. The is a wonderful image of the phenomenon. As a matter of fact, this is what the water might look like under the bridge in Munch's "The Scream". Great interplay of dark and light.

Now here's an abstract, spaces and lines, weight and counterweight, comprising an image of delicate and whimsical composition. This would look great shown at twenty feet long centered on large museum wall.

Peculiarly magical, then you see that it's an upside down scene. Seems more surreal than abstract, but it's still vastly engaging. I especially like the ocean as sky. One of the more vivid images in the challenge.

Noir

Intricate composition in service of a mechanized, industrial abstract. Fine tones and contrast. The title is "Noir," but it seems brighter to me, almost upbeat, but that's just my take. It's visually very appealing.

Took a while to appreciate this unusual image. When you back up and squint the blocks of tone fall into an uneasy balance. To me the dark blotch resembles a person facing left with a release of white liquid - don't know what that is - flowing onto or into the figure's head. That's the abstraction, mysteriously suggestive, which engages the viewer. Don't know if I'm onto something or not. But the staying power of this photo is wrapped up in its abstract opacity and ambiguity.

An intricate, heady ascent into the light, which by the way might be more interesting off-center, or maybe not. The darker spirals create a sense of movement. This would be very compelling hung on a wall. Handsome image.

A lithe, gentle, lovely abstract. The graceful branches on perhaps snow could well be lines of ink. It's such a pleasing composition. I haven't been able to work out the ninja, if that's meant literally, but I do see a pair of nuzzling dolphins. Probably beside the point. Very enjoyable, leaves me smiling.
Second favorite of the challenge.

Terrific abstract full of texture and tone, with the viewer's eye being drawn to the perfect circle amidst the wilder entirety. It's funny how the mind struggles to impose meaning and logic on a realm with a quite different visual physics. I've tried here and failed. There's possibly a tenuous bridge, but how do you find it? But that's what deeply engages a viewer, and when it's well done, as it is here, the abstract welcomes you in for a ponder.
It's a tie.

foundational shift

Very attractive, engaging and satisfying abstract. It looks like a fault line from overhead, after the quake. Even more, to me, it looks like a vast galaxy that's likewise been monumentally shifted. It fills the frame nicely. It would look quite stylish hanging on a discerning wall, or rather hung by discerning occupants.

A Fine Thread

The more I look at this, the more interesting I find it. The bandsaw blade is easily recognizable, but cuts (sorry about that) a fine profile. Partnered with the spider thread, upon which a glow worm type shape climbs or descends, they are an intriguing visual duet. The door handle, or whatever, adds strong balance. The shaded background is also well-balanced. It's a stirring composition. There's that movement, slow and potentially fast, giving it implicit tension.
Personal favorite of the challenge.
