Blueby SJCarterComment: An intense blue that twilight brings to night, very stirring. The composition also commands notice. The lower right corner is not as compelling as the rest of the image. I very much like the elegant simplicity that Sherpet also often strove for, the paring down of artistry to art. |

Remembering Shez by MelethiaComment: Both bold and delicate, the red leaf edges almost literally capture the viewer's eye. It's a commanding, dramatic image that still displays an abundance of tonal variation. I also like how it is subtly off-center. |

Softly Shadowed by westfordComment: This image echoes Sherpet's "Agave Blue" on her first profile page, so this is a very direct tribute. Nevertheless, since I so admire and enjoy the original, this beautiful rendition popped to the top of my ratings screen, and it's my personal favorite of the challenge. This image has a softer feel, the colors blend and the atmosphere glows. Like many other entries, it also has a hopeful, yearning mood, which is altogether appropriate. |

Play ballby ladpupmoeComment: The players on the field and the spectators are nicely miniaturized, figurines painted with brushes of only several bristles. The vehicles don't fare as well. Still, the sense of place and time of day are compelling. |

You go first ...by glad2badadComment: A completely different direction in choice of subject, and successfully attained. The highlighted rim, encrusted in fungi, issues that spooky invitation, the interior being nicely blurred. The title is great. Brings the mind to a concentration of mingled curiosity and dread. |

Pleasantvilleby LuciemacComment: An appealing scene that I just wish had a narrower strip of focus. The cars look too real. Or maybe greater distance would do it. Just saying, because what do I know, not having entered the challenge because of lack of knowledge. The details of the potted plants, mailboxes and the Roxy draw one in. The reds make a nice splash. |

circuit cityby tangueraComment: Great title for this image. It's as if you've pried the back off an old radio, and as you peer closer and closer an entire hitherto unknown world comes into focus. Precise and cinematic. |

Across the Thames by DistantColoursComment: However anachronistic, this feels like a diorama depicting a scene from Dickens. A fine decision to highlight a strip of buildings on the riverfront. Another illusion, at least for me, is that this comes across as sepia, in keeping with the 19th century atmosphere. Maybe this is just a foreigner's gloss. I especially like how the people emerge on the farther end of the bridge in an act of literary resuscitation. |
