what's happiness ?by mariucaComment: Wonderful study and thought-provoking title. I hope she is. However much fun that's displayed in the conjunction of the rakish guy overlooking her shoulder, this heartfelt portrait can stand strongly on its own. |

Untitledby aznymComment: Aznym, you have a stellar way of sympathetically observing people in their environment. And of transforming what may seem to be unredeeming surroundings into stark beauty and handsome composition. There's so much fascinating stuff going on here that I hardly know where to begin. To be uncharacteristically terse, lines, shapes, grain, strange harmonies and, most of all, light. Really fine. |

hawserby Ecce_SignumComment: I like how the hawsers quickly fade from focus once they explode from the bottom of the frame. The game bokeh of everything underneath affords great latitude of interpretation. What I see is the first stage of building a hanging bridge across an Andean chasm. Next comes the walkway. Or the food-drunk view of a wishbone after Thanksgiving dinner. Very interesting. |

Apprentice Curmudgeonsby NikonJebComment: This is great, and also the title. "OK, mister, make it quick 'cause we got stuff to do." In addition to the kids, who are terrific, I also like the vegetation in the sidewalk crack in the very foreground, and the steps, porch and house in the background. The boy on the right gives you the finger with a big grin, kind of an urban equivalent of holding vee-ed fingers behind the head of the person at one's side. Precious. |

nightmareby ubiqueComment: Another amazing wildlife shot. Instead of seeming that you've taken a photograph and later handed it to me to look at, it feels like I'm there as the camera aperture is activated and later handed the photograph to verify my experience. Does that make sense or am I splitting nonexistent hairs? The somewhat impressionistic treatment elevates the hyena to monumental, conveying its essence in addition to its particularity. The strong vignette along with the bright center contributes to the latter effect. The hyena is nicely angled and situated, filling the square well. Nobility is a quality rarely assigned to hyenas, ignorance prevailing, yet here it is. |

A1010194by MAKComment: The foliage already beautiful, your shallow focus imbues the scene with spreading softness of a watercolor. I'm happy just to unfocus my vision and gaze timelessly for awhile. Thank you. |

there you are, my light by jmritzComment: Picked this off the browse page because Karen recently looked at it. So thank you Karen exceedingly for lifting the curtain to this wonderful opera. And thank you John for your lyrical image. As much for the image as also for explaining how you you went about achieving it, revelatory and inspirational. And to John (cutout) for the original dream and body of art. This day is the brighter for it. |

The healthy amount of negative space above the treeline reinforces the import of the road. Where do you go from here in the black and white abstract challenge? Looking forward to your entry there, if you choose to give it a go. Fine, stylish image. |

Towards Summerby jomariComment: This feels more about the trees' day at the beach than the humans'. The people are present as part of the unrolling scroll of time, and I like to think they're viewed with affection. Nicely cinematic. |

Yoal & Stone, Lerwickby Bear_MusicComment: Of course the boat is the visual focus, yet it feels like a maraschino cherry atop a magnificent composition. Not a distraction but a delicious morsel. Because of the common tonality of the stonework you have to work a bit to discern, unravel and lounge in the composition. Sparkling clarity. Hell of a photograph. |
