Multnomah Falls, Oregonby DrAchooComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
With a score of 6.76, I think you achieved what you wanted with this image. You have lots of comments that tell you what our voters thought about your image.
So, there is very little left that a member of the Critique Club can do for you.
I would go on record as saying that "postcard" border, while dramatic, does detract from the overall impact of the image for the purposes of this Challenge.
Other than that, keep doing what you are doing and enjoy your experience at DPChallenge. |

In Iceland's Shadowby metoecusComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Yep, found Iceland, front and almost center.
:)
I'm afraid you found your answer already about how the voters would respond to your image of the world, and your corner of it. Aside from voter reaction to your version of the Challenge, I like the image and the idea behind it.
It has two purple circles down in the South America area that throw me a bit, and it maybe Neat Image would have eliminated the white reflections in Greenland, but as a whole, this does show a lot of effort and it was a tough problem to solve.
In composition, I wonder how it would have looked if you had placed the globe in one of the sweet spots in the frame, rather than going for the left placement. Just a thought.
The main thing is that you seem to have had fun doing this and you learned from it.
I wish you continued success in your DPC Challenge entries. |

Starbucks... After Hoursby LeeDComment: Greetings form the Critique Club
You have a fine and funny image here and your score reflects that. Good to see some humor among the entries.
Eschelar has given you a better critique than I can, so I'll just mention one or two things that struck me as I examined your image with considerable care. Something is wrong where the "snow" comes up to meet the bag of sugar. Whether you were supporting the "snow" with torn paper, or something else, the edge just isn't smooth. I realize you couldn't feather it because of Basic rules...
And to be really picky, the shadow of the snowman just behind that torn edge is a bit strong.
But the story you tell is a good one and comes through nicely through your very good photography.
I wish you continued success in your DPC experience. |

I love to see these lacy branches as they blossom from the trunk. You've done a good job of keeping them in focus.
It may be that the gray sky worked against you just a little. If you had been able to find an angle where you could have captured that blue sky against all the background branches, it would have really helped this image.
It would be nice to see this image photographed on the diagonal to give the image more power and excitement. And, perhaps (and I'm guessing here) the interest factor of the tree receding into the distance just wasn't strong enough to appeal to our voters. This might explain the rather low score you received on this really quite nice image.
I wish you good luck in future Challenges and look forward to seeing more of your work. |

Congratulations, you have your first Challenge under your belt.
You have an interesting picture here. I can relate to it in a sort of Science Fiction way. Looks as if we are seeing a picture of a ceiling and part of a corregated wall. Lots of angles, and lines. That touch of red is good. I like the wide range of darks and lights.
It usually helps in photography to keep your image simple, and that is part of the problem with this image. It a lot of information to absorb and it is quite difficult to find the major subject. So my first suggestion is to make the photograph as simple as possible and still tell your story.
Finally, your title is a bit confusing. It probably would be better to use all lower case letters, and find a title that expresses the meaning of your image. Our voters tend to be in a hurry, and just don't take the time to puzzle out strange titles.
All in all, especially technically, you've done well in your first challenge. I shall look forward to seeing more of your work. |
