You know, this still looks like a lovingly assembled collection that is brought out each year
and packed away with care at the end of 'the holidays.' It's a pleasure to look at it.
Doing this hand-held and manually was a real feat. You captured considerable sharpness
considering the handicap you assessed yourself.
In this case, the story behind the picture brings even more meaning to this composition.

Until I read the comments below, I also didn't see the bird.
The subject appeared to be a 'product shot' and those tend not to score well at DPC.
Suggestion: If you have the pixels, zero in on the bird and perhaps just the Nikon emblem & the lens the bird's perched on.
If you have more background, include it. Then see if you have a different, perhaps more complete & humerous story.
Okay, I did a screen grab. This is pretty much what I meant.

Fine shot of this colorful bird.
Low score? Yeah.
I do wonder what was on the rest of that tree the bird's clinging to.
It seems just a bit cut off. More of the branch/trunk might have given better balance to this good shot.
What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that (IMO) the story of this shot is in the bird and tree, rather than the
background you chose to include.
