Quite a field here and a great approach for the challenge. Congratulation!
As I look at it more and more, I must say that in my opinion it's a lot more powerful if you cut the top and leave just a sea of stones.

That's a complete beauty! I don't know where you found the object, I hope that you made it - I expect it though to be part of a decor in a posh place - but you did a great job to which I cannot but say: Chapeau!
If you made the arrangements, you'll be able to sell it quite well to any interior designer for his/her clients. Original and photo. But you probably know better.
