It almost looks like a chain but ooooooooo, I see now, a dollar sign, duh! Okay, I see it now but it still doesn't appeal to me. The border is distracting to me and while the angle through the shot is good, taking you from one corner to another it's too undefined to really work for me. A 3 |
| 12/07/2003 10:26:19 PM | Floatingby mediamstComment: Well, interesting concept but it really just doesn't grab my attention and keep it. I see two one dollar bills sitting on a white board that is well lit. They don't really look like they are floating to me. The top one possibly but not the bottom one, maybe if there were some sort of motion blur or something. Second the challenge was pretty specific on this one, no money :( A 3 |
| 12/06/2003 09:52:12 PM | Money - The Devil Within Usby Spanish_GreaseComment: A cute idea but as I'm sure you've heard so far, it does not meet the challenge and therefore is losing points for that.
As for the shot, I like the idea but a couple of things bother me about this shot. The border to start, to heavy on the black outside, the inner borders are very well done but the outside is too much. The drawing on the bill is to messy overall. A finer marker with more time would really make this work I think. Using the other bills for borders is a good idea but you only have three sides covered, one across the bottom would have completed the picture and made it look more finished to me. I started with a 2 because of not meeting the challenge and the shot just didn't really appeal to me but upon further inspection I am going to a 5 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/06/2003 09:45:29 PM | untitledby DieHappyComment: This scored low initially because it contains money, which was not supposed to be used and also the overall shot leaves me wanting. Perhaps if it was titled to give me an idea what you were going for. The lighting is also wanting in this shot, it's too dark and almost seems underwater. The container the money is is is alos a bit confusing, it draws you in but the back is very distracting, almost looks like an ice cube on behind the bills but not quite. The overall clarity is there but the contrast is also lacking to me. I started this at a one simply because it was dark, unappealling and did not meet the challenge. Coming back I am raising the score to a 4 for the shot itself because it's not really that bad. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/06/2003 09:40:13 PM | Chasing the big Money! by Harz_JoergComment: This is a wonderful shot. The lines leading you in, the cclarity of the overall shot, the DOF is well done, even the hand is a good choice in that it's not manicured and perfect, just a touch of need in the scruffiness of the fingernails, clean but a bit wanting. I had a 9 on this but am going to make it a 10, well done. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 11/29/2003 10:55:37 AM | One Red Centby fdpiechComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Hi! I really liked this shot during the challenge and still do. But there were a few things that jumped out at me right from the beginning. The first was the glare on the left, very distracting, a slightly tighter crop would have taken care of that. The light on the penny at the top is perfect, not glaring, not too dull. The red cent being off center does work for this shot but the right side getting cut off doesn't really work for me.
I also think a small border would really help this shot, sort of like holding all the pennies inside the frame.
Also the focus seems a bit backwards, almost as if the blur should be in the back and the front more focused. Or the entire shot should be focused since it is a macro shot. I would really like to see this redone and if you do, please let me know.

I commented on the shot during the challenge but let's see if I can be more specific and helpful.
This is a wonderful shot and fits the challenge very well, the only thing that would have made it more so is if you could have caught some birds in the shot but the airplane weather vane is a nice substitute.
The colors of the sky are very well done, if there were no adjustments to them I would say it's a very nice capture and you have some wonderful sunsets. The clarity is lacking overall on the shot to mee, just a bit too blurry all the way around. If the plane and building had been sharper I think it would have helped this shot a great deal. Also the cropping could be just a tad tighter on the left to me taking some of the blue out and leaving the yellows, pinks and oranges.
The letters being reversed still get to me for some reason, it's a minor detail but something that is quite noticable. You have a wonderful eye for the overall scene here and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future! YOu will be one to watch!

The shot is small, hard to define all the elements and the bottles getting cut off are very distracting. A 3 |
