The Now-Empty Seat by LydiaComment: This almost has a quietly compelling, almost bittersweet quality to it. Whether intentional or not, my first thought upon viewing it was--is the pet deceased now? That's a sign of effective art. |

Indeed! Nora decided to dye her hair that morning for the season. It definitely suits her. |

Still Life with Ordinary Toolsby kanajComment: Originally posted by posthumous: the shadow of the phone suggests it's another tool. |
That's exactly what I was going for -- I'm tickled that it came through. I would have been content to leave myself out of the shadow, but I felt like I needed enough of my torso to convey that the what you're seeing is a hand holding a phone and not some other random tool. So this is something of a commentary on way digital "ordinary tools" have in many ways supplanted but not completely replaced reliable, analog ones like these. :-)
Then again, maybe the biggest "tool" in this image IS me? :-P |

18. Side Hustleby Art RoflmaoComment: This is truly hilarious. I hope you keep these in a collection you can print in a photo book for your grandchildren someday. They'll really treasure your sense of humor. Message edited by author 2026-01-05 12:09:26. |

Holding It Togetherby markwileyComment: Feels very much like the cover feature for a magazine with a story about single parenting or something. I mean that as a compliment. It definitely evokes some profound ideas. And besides that, it's just a well-composed and effectively processed image. |

Elephant Toysby jomariComment: Expected this one on the front page. This one evokes both whimsy and sophistication for me at the same time. And it's beautifully captured, too. |
