I do see the thirds that you might think would follow the rule of thirds but the main subject is not in a rule of thirds position because he is too close to the edge of the frame. The use of thirds does not lead you toward the main subject, the person.

This is so cute. What you didn't say in your blurb was how many shots did it take to get the right one. Having worked with little kids and animals, sometimes is just luck in getting any shot much less one this good. Annabelle is precious. I think my fav part is the bit of her red tongue sticking out.
