I like your thought behind this photo. The filled frame is good. HOwever, the photo itself just doesn't have much pop. Here are some suggestions I have:
* It looks like you used on camera flash, which is causing some very harsh shadows. With a still subject like this, I would haver rather seen a tripod and long shutter used.
* The contrast and saturation both seem a bit low. Try increasing them slightly.

I really like the idea, background coloring, clarity, and first two photos. The black tape in the third photo is really throwing me off. I think it's because it's so large, and thus covering too much of the face in my opinion.
