You AGAIN!

You AGAIN!

Great interaction wildlife shot. Looks like a very cold windy day judging by the chop on the water and the Eagles tail feathers forced to the left. You have to be pretty dedicated to be out there to work in these conditions. I feel the Eagles feathers were dodged, there's a lot of noise there. Or it's a big crop. That's OK, NG allows dodge and burn and crop. If the NG article was based on interaction between species there's a good chance this would be published. It's not crisp and sharp and DPC candy and not all NG shot's are this either, but those that aren't have other elements that make them more than compelling and usable.

I'm finding it difficult to comment on this image. Other than the thumbnail being suggestive, a luxury not afforded in a magazine, I cannot see any relevance to an NG story, imagery, theme except maybe abstract art. ETA: I've come back to this after a bit more thought. In the instance where this shot was used to portray a polluted planet, and the silhouette belongs to a building where the vista beyond is obscured by said pollution, it could work.
Typically though this would have to tie in with the article in some way.

I don't mind the burnt highlight of the sun. Even the distortion of the horizon has been done by NG togs' with fisheye or UWA lenses. But the selective desaturation is a positive no-no. You can argue that NG will or has done an article on the future of image manipulation with sample photos, I'll grant you that, but overwhelmingly they don't allow PP beyond dodge and burn, HDR and cropping, not in the magazine or online. I'm not giving this a 1 or a 10 but I feel it has no place in NG, EXCEPT in an article about processing which the spirit of this challenge is not about.

Good advert for headache remedies! Seriously though this is quite amusing, and NG is not just all about compelling subjects like HIV and Global Warming. Often they have used a great image like this to tie in with a paragraph in the article, say about mating and territorial habits. Are there flaws? DPC flaws? Sure. I'd crop tighter above them. Being more to the left would have been perhaps, well, ideal. A bit more sharpness with a higher s/s on motive subjects, yes.
Having said all that, to catch them at the moment of impact where the sudden deceleration has lifted their derrières is commendable. Would it be published. I think so.

I can't place this image, without an article to go with it. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be used. Perhaps it's a famous persons family home and you'd have to tie in the restrictive size and lack of garden, proximity to neighbours that may have had an impact on this persons, life, work, persona. In that case it could well be used, but, and there's the but, I think it is overprocessed, something which NG avoid like the plague.

Deserted? I don't think the sheep would agree with you. Still I love the shot. B&W is not that common in NG. In this instance I think it has made the image more powerful, isolated, cold, portray hardship. Shuttered windows tell me that the house has been abandoned. Could well be used as a story about struggling farmers. Published? A fair chance.

The colours and crispness of this image feel like they belong in a magazine. I'd go lower though, ground level and use the bough to frame the house, to see more of the roof and pitch. Add a happy family on the lawn with Dad under a white 10 gallon hat and everyone in blue jeans and the vision is complete. On it's own without the fast car on the side, happy family, I'm not so sure. Yes images like this have been published but I think it needs a dash more story telling than just in the title. Published? Maybe.

Yes, publish it now. It almost looks model like. Fitting as an image for man's impact and excesses. I like the shallow DOF on the layered terraces leading me to the mining vehicles and hope it wasn't added in PP.

Certainly a unique POV. Something I believe NG togs actively seek. There's an immediate story here, the homeless. No text needed. The warming hands on the right disconnected to a face is exasperating. I want to know more. The guy on the left is almost on his knees pleading for help. I fear his sweater appears like it just came off the rack at the mall. It's too perfect, clean. Still, as a street shot it is engaging and stands on its own merit. Publishable? You betcha.

This is a typical NG shot. Human Interest. Amish Mennonites lifestyle. NG have published stories of the Amish in the past. There's a lot going on here to look at. The hay stuck in his fork is a nice unexpected touch and tells a story. This is a moment in time and whilst it would be nice to see the horses face, it is still looking at it's master. Terribly difficult shot without flash I presume. Well done when it gets published.
