Fish and Fowlby markwileyComment: Unusual POV which is common for NG. Finding a new way to look at old subjects. Without an article to support this image I'm not sure it would be used as the overall image is not telling me a story on it's own. |

National Fishermen´s Cabinby StructorComment: This is real DPC eye candy, pushed processing, dramatic clouds and sky, good composition but lacking in saturation and whilst normally I'd give this a high score, NG are very anti-PP. Dodging, burning and cropping or a blended multi shot HDR is all they allow, which due to the lack of staggered clouds I fear this has been Topaz'd or the like. Tough call. |

Shop in bazarby bnileshComment: Yup. As part of a Human/City/Commercial Interest story and the BW film grain of pre-digital era is likely to have been used. A touch OE though. The shop owner framed in the bottom left leaving my eye to wander through the rest of the scene draws me in. A good chance this would have been published. |

Nature on the edgeby BrennanOBComment: What is this? A refinery? Chemical plant of some kind. I'm oft amused by the use of these images, dark dastardly industry right next to a wetland teaming with healthy wildlife. This doesn't show that exactly, there's only 4 loan waterfowl, but the dark clouds and the ominous structures say "Industrial Disaster Looming". That's the crux of this images success. It is telling a story but leaving the readers imagination to come up with his/her own disaster, revulsion, solution, image. Dangerous stuff if you are only reporting, not suggestively persuading. The image certainly stands out and I believe would easily suit an article about any one of a number of man vs nature angles. |

Such a small world after all...by raresmacinicaComment: Tough call whether this would make it or not. Urban photography and unique images are synonymous with NG. This is unique. All I can say is that I'd not have cropped the tail feathers. I'd have dodged the head a bit and placed the bird to the left of the frame looking right, as this is allowed by NG. With improvement in crop and exposure, it could be used as a story of the Feral Pigeon's adaptability from nature to the city. An extra mark for the effort taken to shoot this. NG togs go the extra mile. |

Now a domain of Oystercatchers and sheepby XileboComment: Lovely simple landscape with a derelict farm building as the main subject. Does not look HDR'ish or over processed. I don't like the fence as it is. Either crop it out or step back and show more of it. Waiting for the sun to sneak through a patch of cloud to spotlight the buildings is commendable. All round nice image for a "Global Hard times" or farmers plagued by economy story. It could easily be published. |

Vanityby bcrantsComment: Nice shot on a very common subject. Fills the frame nicely. A larger 800px wide version would have more impact. It's also rather overexposed. It could be published but I think a more natural even exposure would take precedence. |

Sometimes The Smallest Things In Life Are The Most Beautifulby blueblossom11Comment: Again, as with other BW comments I've made, this is an uncommon practice on NG. Good bokeh and focus, perhaps a bit OE on the left bark, great DOF and BG. A colourful chameleon, a bright lizard is somewhat lost on me in BW and I think the readers. Whilst it does show the animal in a different light, I think it would be passed up by NG. |

Edge to Flightby bwoComment: I'm seeing a lot of B&W shots in this challenge. It's not a common NG format. Not saying it's not been done, just uncommon. Still, the minimalist effect is, as far as DPC entries is concerned also uncommon and thus daring. There's not a lot of contrast in this, and early BW films and most off the shelf films I used were the same. So, if you were a young 1970's NG tog, perfectly acceptable. I can't see a story here, nothing hits me in the face so the image could not stand on its own without supporting text. Is the hand of man needed? (The pier). Surely depends on the article. 50/50 chance of publication. |

Pacific by luckylucianoComment: B&W are seldom used in NG. To make this publishable the focus, imho, should have been manually achieved, on the child's face. Right now it seems the grass is in focus to his right. The foreground grass and his face are OOF. It's cute and fun but not gripping enough, story telling enough. |
