To the top of the worldby wildirisComment: That's so Dr Achoo it isn't funny...and if it isn't I have to cover my ass so well done if you aren't he :) I love it. You can't ask for better in all departments. Background is superb. A dream. The light is exceptional, the focus on the drops perfect. One niggle, the bugs head, by nature of his upright position, is not ideal and a tad hidden by the right antennae. Would NG use it? I think so. Now ditch the frame. It's ghastly. |

Mysterious Creatures of the Deepby KelliComment: Very early underwater NG images had this very odd CA and weird colour. Either the film of the day or the paper/print process. I remember it well. Maybe the need for flash too had an effect. This so screams NG underwater photography of old. In this case it might be in an aquarium, through a 2" thick laminated glass and the laminate added that green tinge and light diffraction. So what. Print it. They looked like this for years. |

parallel universeby varlyte79Comment: Of course NG have shot, written about architecture a lot over the years. This has a great aspect and a lot to look at. Half the fun of NG images, lots to look at. What is it though? A church, a public space? Not clear! No real story. Difficult exposure and I don't think you've done much if any PP. Good for you to stick to NG rules. I'd maybe have dropped EV by -0.3 or -0.5 just to give a bit more contrast and saturation. Still a worthy image and I've seen worse. The title is a bit odd, perhaps not typical NG. Print it! |

Rainy Dayby mrbig65Comment: It's a nice attempt. I think either over cropped or over processed. The composition leads my eye back to the well lit shell and I think the head and antennae are far more important, as is the water drop. I don't think it would be snapped up by NG, sorry. |

Southern Winterby robstComment: Great work, typical classic photographic technique, with leading lines, smooth sky, gradations, humans, POV, composition. Classic and publishable if tied into an article, well done. I'd just get rid of the border if submitting to NG... |

A Call on Restorationby galatia_nComment: Egypt, Abyssinia, Greek temple? All possible. Usable 3D POV. The lighting, I'm not a fan. Rather than a direct flash from the right seemingly flat on, or maybe a pop-up I'd have used off camera flash from the left of the camera just touching the relief, adding some light/dark differences to make the faces pop out of the image. Hard if you only have 3 seconds and the tour guide is rushing you on a bit I know...I think the image could be usable if you had an explorer in pith helmet pointing to a face with a cane. |

In the sandby editComment: BW are seldom used at NG, certainly less of it in the past decade or so. It's risky to use it in an NG challenge. Most people EXPECT a colourful image of a yawning lion or a breaching whale. I like the image. It's minimalist with a huge expanse of negative space. But what story is it telling? I'm left empty. Have nothing to tie it in with, other than if it is referred to in the text, article it would be associated with. Publishable? Not on it's own merits I don't think, sorry. |

Tussock Moth Caterpillar spines can cause hypersensitivity reaction if touchedby MaryOComment: Great shot. I shot one a few years back and battled to identify it. That means that you have at least spent some time trying to identify your subject, a good NG trait. The title has helped the viewer identify the insect and get an education about it! I think you used a ring flash or off camera flash at least and this is not unheard of in NG but it has washed out the image a little. Still a good, thoughtful effort with decent focus on the head and everything is visible and well composed. Publishable? Sure. |

Delicate, Low-Relief Designs Cover This Graceful Brass ...by GeneralEComment: I like this. It has form, colour, 3 dimensional elements. Title is NG style. I would have shot it from a higher POV to get the top rim of the vase flat and parallel to your frame, and not falling off to the right. As it is the vase looks tilted to the right and not vertical. The BG is not totally black, and it doesn't HAVE to be, as it could be in a gallery with a cloth BG that itself is not 100% black. There is a small reflection highlight from a nearby light source, not bad but I might have tried to diffuse that. Publishable? A fair chance. |
