Solitudeby HawkinsTComment: Classic Lone Tree image, great processing and contrast, love the windswept look. Perhaps a tad too central for me. |

La Mopby jagarComment: Is that M or F? I never was good at Le and La in French classes. Nice one. (How do you get away with all this street photography? Do they know you by now in the village?) |

On a Wing and a Prayerby AbraComment: Yes, unusual non traditional compo. Perhaps some masking and denoise on the BG would have given the subject more punch. Still a good story telling shot. The statue praying that it might take flight and the bird lending angelic shoulder support :) |

Synchronisedby AbraComment: At least your honest. We've all done that at least once in our lives. I have. It has however had the nett result that I now make more effort to be in the right place at the right time, and if I can't get the shot then so be it.
The vignette is not noticeable, barring maybe bottom right as all the other corners were dark anyway. Nice duo-tones and silhouette all the same!
Re the dropping of your score minutes before roll-over. It happens all the time but mostly on free studies. I think a lot of voters look at their 5.9 or whu, and then hastily drop all their given 6 votes to 5 votes in the hope that they may gain a few positions on the ladder. Stinks I agree and where you thought you might just squeeze out that 6, you end up with a 5.9355!
Us wildlife (and bird nuts) should stick together and add +1 to all those wild/nature images to counteract them :) |

Morning flightby AbraComment: As a work in progress (your slow s/s BiF work) this is very enjoyable. Great POV and good technique.
The uniformity of the black parallel lines to mid right of image did detract from the flow and bob, the purpose or your intent when taking the shot. |

"Bundle of Sticks" - PAW 2012 - Week 07by shutterpuppyComment: In chaos there are forms of order. Does that destroy the chaos principle? One butterfly flits left in the Amazon rain forest and there's drought in the Mid West.
I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment but I challenge anyone to not find order in chaos. Take a picture from 10 miles up in the sky of floods, and you will find trees all flattened in the same direction...forming a pattern.
I understand your thought process after the explanation, I admit I battled to "get it" too, yet I have often taken an arb picture of something because of how I felt at that moment. My image might never have been shared as yours is/was yet will forever hold a meaning for me.
How did they get here, did nature just discard them after death, what purpose did they serve in life?
Kudo's for sharing. Even more Kudo's for using film and scanning it in. The print must be very earthy, tangible. |

Melancholy Babyby NeilComment: I confess. I suck at portraits. It's to do with engagement and making the subject feel comfortable which I am sorely lacking. . I'd rather do paparazzi candids form 2 blocks away :) It doesn't stop me from enjoying professional work such as this and understanding the experience needed in both the genre and the use of light. The touch of light on her cheek, the sombre pensive look, the matching and complimentary clothing, hat and BG are wonderful. Natural light or strobes?
Great image. Easily an 8 on it's own, possibly more based on the competition if entered in a challenge. |
