You did good with the Shallow DoF. What needs improvement is the portrait posing. The only visible eye is in blur and the only sharp part of the shot is the hair covering the face which is taking up about 50% of the image. This does seem like a candid shot so you may not have been able to change the pose. However, the major portion of the shot is hair.

Good DoF... You got some good detail showing on the bird. A few critiques for you: Composition and sharpness. The bird isn't "Tack" Sharp. Also I think the composition could have been more thought out, though I admit there may not have been time. Specifically the bird is not center nor is it place according to rule of thirds. Also the perspective allows the cluttered background to show through making it not real "clean".

Fun find... How can this be made better??? Possibly use a bigger aperture to blur the background and remove the clutter, Portrait style framing might have helped eliminate some of the unnecessary background.
