Self Portraitby sjhulsComment: Excellent Weston Like Portrait! Good pose representative of his headshots, very contemplative. Use of digital medium really lacks the depth that Weston's film portraits show but here it may also be the distance of the background to the model, as Weston shot many outdoor portraits. (My last comment is not to say your photo is lacking in any way, just different because of the medium chosen.)
Overall an excellent example! |

Fan VIby TiberiusComment: Very good stylistic photo without being a copy of a subject. (As far as I have seen I have never seen him shoot a fan of any kind anyway). Excellent lighting and exposure. Really good shadow keeping detail in the blacks while allowing for detailed highlights with out being overblown. |

edward weston tributeby LawtonComment: Nice form study. I like the composition here with the angle. I think there is just not enough light and it is a bit underexposed leaving it kind of grey. Rather than using a longer shutter speed, I think leaving that the same and getting some more light on the subject would have helped. I am no pro though... all my images came out real flat!! |

Lettuceby james_soComment: This is good. Weston's cabbage shot was all about the form and the texture. Here, you got the form well but with a different perspective. Lettuce has a different texture which is shown nicely here being smooth and veiny with a sheen. One thing that sticks out is with the background being soooo deep black, the subject looks very two-dimensional. You got the light draping on the subject fairly well! |

Mushroomby AbraComment: Such a great job on this!! I love how you got the dark blacks and maintained the detail in the whites. Very good "in the style of" photo without being a copy! |

Moustache Manby ThingFishComment: I think you got a good environmental portrait style going on here, which some of Weston's portraits were prone to being. I like the black and white toning however I think you could have dialed back shadows a little. Perhaps it is too much contrast. Also, it looks like you weren't using the blur to create artistic merit which is good because Weston's work was typically in focus and sharp as far as I could tell. However having the subject be in focus is essential for Weston's environmental portrait style. |

Yashica Minister III Repair: Part Oneby BrennanOBComment: Nice job on arrangement and keeping with the vision that the person who suggested the challenge had in the examples they gave. Only flaws I could see is that using the square crop left a little bit of a bigger buffer at the edges on the top and bottom of your frame. Other than that... excellent. |

Canonby JonoTuckerComment: This is really in the style of the examples that the person who suggested the challenge intended. Nice job on that! Only minor flaw I could bring up is the camera body spilling out of the frame. You could have used a bit of a buffer around the edges of your background. |
