challenge met - yes, and in creative way
technical - very good. got the lighting just right. would like to see the reflection on the bottles to be same all the way to the bottom if that's possible.
composition - awesome.

challenge met - yes
technical - left side of the photo with the bug is out of focus, but it feels like that should be the main subject
composition / appeal / would i hang it on the wall - no. see my comments above. bug is main attraction but not in focus, sorry.

challenge met - yes
technical - picture seems blurred, trash in the open bag is overexposed
composition - i realize you probably had to take that shot pretty quick while the situation was there, but a lower angle from further to the right might have been more effective (if possible) so that the dog's face was more visible (and didn't melt into the trash as much). i also have a preference of animal/kid pictures that are taken at their level rather than looking down on them.

challenge fulfilled - yes
technical - seems rather soft
composition / appeal / would i hang it on the wall - not really

there doesn't really be a specific main element in the photo, my eye wanders around but doesn't really get drawn to anything, sorry.

meets the challenge - yes
technical - shallow DOF, focus seems to be behind the cigarette butt
composition / appeal / would i hang it on the wall - wouldn't hang it on the wall. cigarette butt is too centered, overall subject not appealing (i know, it's garbage, but anyway ....).

first reaction - wow, i thought *i* was untidy as a teenager ;)
challenge met - yes
technical - just a tad overexposed in my mind, looks a tad soft, too
composition - i don't know. i'm trying to picture different angles because this one doesn't appeal to me. maybe from a lower vantage point and try not to get the door into the shot?

awesome. i'm sure this is this week's winner. love your creativity, implementation and the message. i'm curious how you did this ... it almost looks like you froze the candy wrappers or something. i'm sure you'll tell us on monday. gr8photos (10).

thanks for all your comments, i was quite pleased with the rating :) to reply to a couple of comments:

ssonnentag -- you are kind of right. it's actually not the white balance being off, but a reflection of that aweful pink carpet the previous owners put into our house. that was the only place with decent sunlight at the time. i retook this shot in a different spot many many many times, but still liked this one best.

gracious -- i was just trying to make fun of my coffee drinking habit. but you are absolutely right, i would not trash those mugs.

konador & hbunch -- i know some of it is a little bright, but i liked the high-key approach here better than the original photo (i'll post my outtakes on my website tonight) and it helped me to achieve that nice even background that i'm always so fond of.

gina -- i originally tried this with the mugs only in the trashcan, and decided it needed something to make the photo less stiff. i'll post an outtake w/out the extra mugs on my website tonight so you can see whether you still prefer it w/out the clutter.

count -- thanks, that was quite a compliment :)

aelith -- this is only a small part of my collection ...

seasick & unified_theory -- i must've missed the part of the challenge where it stated it had to be candid garbage ;)

challenge met - somewhat. i wouldn't have thought trash w/out the title and the challenge theme
technical - not great, but probably as good as can be expected shooting through a car window in bad weather
composition - horizon is not level. not sure whether you did that deliberately to give the feeling of the force of the wind, but i personally would prefer it level.
