| 06/18/2002 04:27:00 PM | Numbersby arnitComment: Very cool shadow idea. Was there a way of having at least one of the 3s the right way around? Also, the 3 and some of the background is slightly blown out, and why is one of them gray? Regardless, a really good entry for this challenge. |
| 06/21/2002 05:16:00 PM | Identity Theftby albright1Comment: Cool idea. What's the material of the mask? It seems very reflective, you have some hotspots on it. You may be able to reduce those by putting tissue paper over your lightsource. I'd suggest not pointing the lightsource directly at the mask, but then you wouldn't get the shadow, would you! ;) If there is any way of not having the shadow from your hand holding the mask showing that would be a bonus. Not sure if that's doable though, so please ignore the comment if it wasn't. |
| 06/17/2002 03:28:00 PM | Midnight Caravanby magnetic9999Comment: I know there was this whole long discussion going on on shadow vs. sillhouette (I finally stopped following it). I think sillhouette does not qualify for shadow, and your photo falls into that category, unfortunately. Apart from that, I like the camel, the idea with the background is great, but overall, the shot is a little too dark (and that may be impossible to change w/out loosing the candle light shining through the patterns). |
| 06/22/2002 11:47:00 AM | She's Lurking in the Shadowsby tjpierreComment: I like this one more and more. The chess pieces are nice, and I like the warm glow of light on them. I wish you'd got the king in focus, too, but I know the DOF is often limited when doing these kind of macro shots. Also like that the shadows are obviously not the same pieces and don't match up one by one. |
| 06/17/2002 03:08:00 PM | Dancing Elvesby SwashbucklerComment: I'm not sure I would've recognized this w/out the title. A more even/smooth background might have helped, too. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/17/2002 02:57:00 PM | last train homeby queen 91Comment: Yes, there are some vaguely noticable shadows in this shot, however, if I'd seen it outside of the challenge, shadow would've been one of the last things to come to mind. I do like the inclusion of the clock in the top left of the shot. |
| 06/24/2002 09:13:00 AM | Bad Hair Day by FranziskaLangComment: Thank you all for the comments and votes! :) I was going to post a version of the shot w/out the additional onion weed in the shadow (this is by far the most common critique I got), but it seems that I deleted the gazillions of other variations I had of this shot when I tried to clean up my photos. Sorry. Anyway, I did that, as well as turning the shadow to be the vertical object to try and put the emphasis on the shadow first, and the bottle & weeds second. Btw, these weeds actually look that way, they are not dead! ;) |
| 06/17/2002 02:56:00 PM | Marblesby RedRuthannComment: I see where you are trying to go with this one, but unfortunately, this is very much a gray on gray shot. Some more contrast, and maybe a stronger lightsource could've helped IMO. |
| 06/17/2002 03:09:00 PM | Web Roseby hokieComment: IMO, there's not enough of the shadow to see, the background is a little too blown out, and the water droplets distract from the shot. I do like the webrose, with a little more experimentation with lighting and angles, that could make for a really great shot. |
