Two-colored sunriseby chalconeComment: This reminds me of some science fiction stories I've read set on worlds with two suns. That the cloud formations can give our single sun this effect is unusual. That you were able to capture it so beautifully is amazing. Great photo. |

Midnight in the swampby fleenkComment: Nice silhouette. The moon is in just the right place, framed by the trees (although a bit low for "midnight"). There is perhaps a bit too much black at the bottom; this image would probably work well cropped as a panorama. |

Home Sweet Homeby giantsComment: The subject's expression, the way she is lit, and the decrepit surroundings combine to make an emotional portrayal of desolation here. The title adds further emphasis. |

Quoth the raven....by Faye PekasComment: The vertical lines in the rotting wood contrast nicely with the horizontal lines in the water. The use of the raven as a symbol of desolation is a nice touch, and the title nicely ties the photo to Poe's literary masterpiece on the subject. |

when you are stuck in the past ...by sainazComment: This is an excellent and emotional portrayal of desolation. Nice contrast between the bare walls in the top half and the busy photos in the bottom half. The lines in the floor, baseboards, and corner lead the eye to the subject, whose posture is great for this image. You've controlled the depth of field perfectly; the person is in focus and the photos are blurred just enough to be recognizable without them being too distracting. |

Final Sunset by rcrawfordComment: Beautiful colors and well focused. Seems a bit over-sharpened, but that may be the monitor I'm using (not my calibrated one at home). Conveys desolation well. I wish there was a bit of space to the left of the tree like there is to the right. |

Aloneby didnthaveacameraComment: This is a beautiful image and technically well done. I like the composition and the symmetry. It doesn't seem very desolate to me, probably because I enjoy being alone and would love to be in this setting for my pondering and prayer time. But that's just me; the difference between loneliness and aloneness is internal and difficult to express visually. |

What Lies Belowby FayechComment: Nice composition here, emphasizing the right angles, even the one at the top that was cut off; although not visible, it is definitely part of the photo. Unfortunately, the subject just isn't very interesting. |

Gates to Mountainsby ChicagrafoComment: The lines in the gate are striking, but the gate by itself isn't very interesting. The view behind the gate isn't very interesting either; where are the mountains from the title? |
