The Postman Always Rings Twiceby LinMalAngComment: Nice idea, and a shot you don't see that often anymore. There's a couple of things that bother me a bit about it, though. The slight angle of the shot -- I think I'd like it straightened or angled more. With just the small angle, it seems more like a mistake than a conscious effort, though I could definitely be wrong on that. Also, the postman seems underexposed and slightly soft. If you had no flash or reflector for fill, I'd rather have the background slightly overexposed to be able to have the exposure a little better on the subject. -4- |

"Please Sir, I want some more"by Shifty_PowersComment: Nice idea, and nice bowl, but I'm feeling that it's too dark. Perhaps it's the heavy shadows between the fingers -- because I like the idea of the back of the bowl and the person disappearing. -6- |

The Secret Gardenby lunachickenComment: This one took me a second until I thought back through the book. Part of me wants the boy to be lighter, part of me likes just how dark he is. The stones on the left seem intrusive, though. I'm curious what it would look like cropped in more, or with a heavier vignette, something to de-emphasize the stone since the rest is so wonderfully subtle. -7- |

Marathon Manby markwileyComment: Are these women, though??
I like the swirling of the runners. I wish you could have taken down the bright light streak at the top of the photo -- it really draws the eye away from the wonderful frenzy. -6- |

Snow Whiteby PennyStreetComment: I wish I was getting the connection on this one, but I'm not. :(
I like the awkwardness of the feet and the hand and I like the color palette. However, in thinking all the way through the story, I'm just not coming up with a connection (unless eating the apple makes you nearsighted first. :)
Sorry. -5- |

Tribute to O.Henryby lei_73Comment: Had to search to get the reference. The cabbage is quite nice, but something doesn't feel right with the composition. I think it would have worked better if the kings were tucked under the cabbage more? Right now they seem too separated for the kings to be that soft. The eye sees it as two different subjects, one out of focus, instead of one composition with a shallow dof (at least that's how my eye is seeing it :) Plus the cards are bright next to the gorgeous lighting of the cabbage, it just keeps drawing the eye to something not as interesting. -5- |

The Sun Also Risesby chaliceComment: Very nice. I like the swirls in the clouds and the color palette. I also like the silhouette in the front. -7- |

Charlotte's Webby glad2badadComment: I love all the dew drops on this. I can't tell if this is a bit soft or not. (I've been having problems with my eyes, so it might be me.) I do wish there was more detail in Charlotte, though. She seems dark. I'm wondering if she was lightened, if we could see more details. :)
Nice find! |

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886)by GarryComment: Quite creepy! Good idea and good execution. (although I hesitate to use the word execution when someone's holding a knife...) -8- |
