Groovyby GeneralEComment: Originally posted by dsidwell: Hey, that IS groovy! Nice composition, Paul. That line going from bottom to top really works for me. Colors seem a bit weird, but then again, I'm colorblind! |
Thanks, so am I -- my photos often have strange colors, because I mainly worry about tone range and sometimes don't check to see just what the color is. At least it's not the original grayish-brown of the concrete! |

Ansel Roseby BrookiedComment: The lighting looks a little stark to me, but I'm not sure I could adjust it any better and keep all the detail. I think what I want is a slightly more gradual transition from the mid-tones to the shadows. Texture and detail in the mids and highlights look great. |

Chapel in the snowby RUEDISCHMUTZComment: Not for this challenge, but the composition makes me want to run a "painting" filter on it and use it as a Christmas card : ) |

Rancocas Tree Studyby edc1Comment: Abstract ... macro ... not quite sure what to call this but it's definitely well-done "in the style of ..." |

Vasquez Rocks by TelehubbieComment: I would have lightened the lighter midtones just a tad more than here, but an excellent example anyway, especially the detail in the deep shadows. |

A Tribute to the Legend 1902-1984by GringoComment: I haven't checked this with a densitometer, but I think the brightest highlights could be just a tiny bit whiter. Excellent job with the shadow and mid-tone details! I also like how this shows such a variety of terrain; water, flatlands, steep mountains, and sky. I don't know what's in the view off to the left, but maybe rotating the view a bit that way would eliminate that light patch of hillside on the right edge -- I don't think that adds much, and sometimes seems almost a distraction. I like it a lot overall. |

Twiddlingby GeneralEComment: Thanks for the comments ... looks like with a darker towel and slightly faster shutter speed this could work better. I haven't practiced much with manual shutter settings.
If I'd only spent less time (figuratively) twiddling my thumbs and more setting up the shot ...
I like the little spike of high votes disrupting the "normal" curve : ) |
