Interesting choice to de-focus the subject -- makes one stop and consider what's otherwise a pretty ordinary and largely monochromatic composition. Such daring is rarely rewarded at DPC, but maybe you'll do better than usual : )

This statement seems unnecessarily confrontational -- I find likely to divert the CC member's attention away from your interesting photo, and to a consideration of your attitude, just as it has mine.

FWIW I "got" the context of a class/club and their model taking a break without much trouble ... the processing gives it a look which reminds me of an etching or other "old-timey" print, which I think works well for this image.

This light looks a little harsh for the subject; I'd be tempted to soften it a bit, and/or add a vignetted border to focus the brightest part of the light on the face and book; easier to do under Advanced rules.
