SittingPretty.JPGby sonniejakeComment: Oh, now this is really interesting! I love the way the pollen is in focus and is peeking over the petal; the lighting with this background works really well too. |

I See You.JPGby sonniejakeComment: OK - the good stuff first: Great choice of aperture to get this DOF - it fits the image and also the general principles you have used for the composition are also good; it makes sense for the branch to exit the image at the corner.
I know you are happy to have some critique so here is my two cents: Although the main composition is OK, for me the crop at the bottom is too close to that flower and the position of the background branch is a little distracting. I've just had a slight play with it and rotating it about 5-10 degrees counter-clockwise seems to work quite well. I also think the image lacks a little punch - probably needs a little more exposure and a little more contrast - I wasn't too successful in trying that with this jpeg but it did get a little better - I also found that desaturating the yellow just a little really helped too.
Can I ask - are you shooting in RAW or just jpeg?
As ever this image has a lot more potential that what is on the screen - editing a RAW version would do justice to your good eye for an image.
I should put all of my comments in perspective; there are other contributing to this flower challenge whose feel for post-processing leaves me far behind so please take all of the above with a pinch of salt! |

Red-Roseby jomariComment: I really like the rain on this but I think there is some missing information in parts of the image; I think I'd probably raise the black point and do a bit of highlight recovery... easy to say here though, without access to the RAW I'm in no position to give a fair critique of the edit. It's just the impression I get of what I would want to do if I were looking at this image in post.
Having said all that, it is a very attractive and well accomplished image. |

Sosoby TCGuruComment: I do like high key images but I'm not sure about this one. Kind of neither vibrant nor subtle. I wonder how it would look in monochrome... |

Rain Kissed by luvmyaussieComment: The dynamic range here is perfect - how much of it is PP levels / curves? Or is it just perfectly lit and exposed?
This is the sort of work that makes me thoroughly frustrated with my own stuff! I wish I could pull this sort of quality out of the bag. |

Pinksby PikkelComment: Bags of potential in this image and nothing that a little editing wouldn't fix. |

Yes, you are right - I don't think I round-tripped this to CS4 for Neat Image.
Thanks for the comment. |
