Bedtimeby NuzzerComment: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Shot through some form of fabric I presume; it works just like an overlay - I really like it. The success of the image lies in its ability to conceal and reveal to just the right amount. Lighting and colour are sublime.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Excellent work. |

Positives: This is a very pretty image - I'm really glad that you've had the confidence to trust in its blurry goodness. The slight coloration works really well too.
Critical stuff: I can't think of anything.
Overall: I glad you trusted your instincts here - good convention bucking stuff. |

Positives: Nice motion blur image, there are lots of elements to look at and they are all so different, the couple of runners, the bus itself (and its route information), the passengers and (most of all for me), the poster on the side. This is one of those images that reminds us that there is always so much to look at around us if only we were to lift our gaze.
Critical stuff: Perhaps a tighter crop top to bottom, allowing the bus to fill the height of the frame.
Overall: The ordinary made interesting. Good job. |

Positives: Great candid image, excellent colours and bags of interest - makes me wonder what I would see to the left and right of your image.
Critical stuff: I do wish the focus on the face was a little crisper and that the black thing at the top of the frame was either not there or made more sense.
Overall: An interesting shot which I have been pleased to have found. |

Positives: Wow, the quality of the light here stopped me in my tracks - the coloration too is sublime. The whole scene is quite magical and looks very much like a miniature.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all
Overall: Very interesting image. Message edited by author 2009-12-08 05:48:25. |

Positives: Very delicately done - the whole look is very much in keeping with the subject. The very narrow zone of focus is highly interesting, but for me the highlight is the shadow!
Critical stuff: Nothing really
Overall: A very precise piece of work which gets the most out of a simple subject. Message edited by author 2009-12-08 05:38:46. |

Positives: I'm afraid I'm really going to struggle to put something here.... I suppose I do like the way that you have managed to capture / emphasise the joints between the piece of turf.
Critical stuff: I'm afraid I don't really get this image, there's little intrinsic interest and your PP does little to add to a quite boring scene.
Overall: Apologies, I'm sure you see something of interest here but it is beyond me. |

Positives: This image is all about light and shadow and you've set up and captured the balance between the two perfectly. The colour and texture is really good too.
Critical stuff: I have mixed feelings about the border - right colour choice but I can't help thinking that the pear perhaps doesn't need its help. I wonder if you'd have framed it if the DPC background was black.
Overall: A very accomplished piece of work. |
