I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: I like the repeating geometric pattern and the angle of rotation of the lines relative to the frame.

Critical stuff: Too dark really and a little bit blurry too.

Overall: I like the vision but I'm not so keen on the result.

St John's?

It is a nice image but it seems ever so slightly over-sharpened to me.

Positives: You'll be getting killed for the blur but I think it is masterful - the restriction of clarity makes us keep our distance and the paradoxically the image becomes more intimate, we feel like we are watching something authentic and uninfluenced by observation. The coloration matches the scene perfectly - I feel like I am watching a silent 8mm film, so with the (not) crashing waves - your title is perfect.

Critical stuff: Nothing

Overall: Excellent work.

Positives: I think fog can be quite hard to work with - I find capturing the quality of the light difficult, but you have done that here. I really like the coloration too - it hasn't escaped me that the bottom edge is black and the top is white and how we journey through green and yellow to get there. That subtle colour change guides the eye almost without us noticing.

Critical stuff: Because I like the white at the top, I'm not a fan of the vignetted corners.

Overall: Uber-subtle and effective.

Positives: Very well executed - perfect technicals, great title and a mood well conveyed. There is something about this image that is so un-snapshot; despite it having so many family snapshot elements.

Critical stuff: I do like it a lot - I think a monochrome conversion would work really well too.

Overall: A very nice image with just the right amount of edge - I hope it does well for you.

Positives: Easily the most powerful image I've seen so far in this FS. So many compelling elements - the figures, than hand, the ambiguity of the scene. And then there is the 'surface' I think this might be a reflection in metal but it is just as likely to be us looking through perspex. The way you have focussed on the scratches is of course the secret of the image - it keeps us remote from the scene, we feel hidden, nebulous and to an extent disassociated and uninformed.

Critical stuff: Nothing.

Overall: 10 and a fav. Top drawer stuff.

Positives: Nice use of perspective and I appreciate the nested symmetry. I can see that you have crafted an image from very little really.

Critical stuff: Although I can appreciate your photography here, I think the scene itself hasn't helped you much.

Overall: A good attempt at dressing up a fairly dull scene - there is probably more of the photographer's hand here than in many images.

Positives: This is a most interesting image - childlike but surprisingly dark too. Fabulous colours and the eyes are amazingly captivating. The matching flowers are a nice touch too.

Critical stuff: Nothing at all.

Overall: A really great image.

Positives: Stand-out post processing (a Nik filter?). The tilt works really well too. The main subject is compelling enough but for me the scene / environment is the star here.

Critical stuff: Not much at all.

Overall: An interesting and successful image.
