I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Astonishing portrait. I wouldn't want to mess with her! Such purpose in her stride - it offers a huge amount of dynamism to the image - at first glance the image almost appears to move. Of course, your nailed focus, with this depth of field, helps isolate your subject make our eyes snap to attention - I think this active pulling of the gaze enhances the feeling of a real moment.

Critical stuff: No

Overall: Top class street candid.

Positives: I like the bi-zonal effect here, the prominent foreground gentleman draws the eye but only for a moment before our gaze is hijacked by the officious interloper at the top. He breaks (and won't permit) us to share in the man's apparent quiet. I not often brave enough to go with a Dutch angle but it works really well here, anchored as it is by the verticals of the bench. I like your title too - I'm not sure I see suffering here though discomfort perhaps.

Critical stuff: No.

Overall: A very well made (and intriguing) image.

Positives: What a fabulous portrait - full of character. I really like the setting too - those steps give the image a real sense of depth. Tones are pretty much perfect for this shot.

Critical stuff: That is a great door, but I think a composition that cropped just this side of the door, putting him bottom right of the image might have worked better - not least because your marvellous subject would be a bit larger on the screen.

Overall: Despite my suggestion of a different crop - yours does work and I DO like this image a great deal.

Positives: Great candid capture - excellent contrast in characters that conspires to give a lovely slice of life. I really like the tone of the people and the smile/look of the young lady.

Critical stuff: The tones of the background and the chairs are a bit flat; I think I'd have been tempted to boost the contrast a little in those areas. I also think you could chop a bit from the left hand side.

Overall: This is a fine image that I have enjoyed very much.

Positives: Perfect POV, super-gorgeous tones and a really interesting subject - has that jagar sharp but glowy thing going on. I really like the burnt edges too.

Critical stuff: The foreground track is a bit sharp and crunchy for me; a bit of diffusion in this area might help to keep the eye on the action.

Overall: An excellent and engaging image.

Positives: I'm get excited very infrequently with landscape work (some DPC'ers pull it off, but not many) and HDR in particular. Here though, you've created something highly compelling. Those clouds are amazing and the figures add an overlay of story not often seen in landscape work. The colours too should be gaudy but instead they communicate a rich warmth.

Critical stuff: I'm not so keen on the foreground rock - the prominent local contrast in this area delays the eye getting to the much more exciting upper part of the image.

Overall: Very well crafted. Will do well.

Positives: What a fabulous point of view and a stand-out story too. It is understated but still has tons of impact - it's quite a feat to pull that off. The tones are great as in the composition - again, you break rules, packing the periphery of the image without distracting from your central subject. You make my eye circle the image time and again.

Critical stuff: Nope.

Overall: Quite brilliant - looking forward to seeing who this is.

Positives: Wow, look at the light here - I do look at the figure and the lamp post but your leading lines take my eye to those distant high palms with their shadows cutting through the haze - it has a cinematic quality about it.

Critical stuff: The figure could do with a little more space to the right.

Overall: Glorious light, perfectly judged exposure. I like this a lot.

Positives: Almost Ubique-like in its mood (what could be better); though perhaps a little too 'finished'. The amount of blur on the child is just perfect - a stark contrast to the crispness of the rest of the frame. The toning is great too.

Critical stuff: There's something about the sun that creates the impression of target banding - it distracts a little.

Overall: I like this very much.

Such dedication. I think this rather makes a case for 'Basic' - it sets the bar rather high in terms of technical proficiency and achievement of vision.

So well done.
