The Space Betweenby MelethiaComment: Well here I am rereviewing some of my favorite shots in anticipation of our visit this week. I gave this a 6 originally but only because I'm lazy and limit my initial votes to 6 or less, which means you got my best vote and in this case I didn't revisit for more definitive evaluation. This is a beautiful compositional study and quite an amazing demonstration of a natural eye (since you are not trained in such stuff as I am). There is an element of visual excitement that is generated by the critically judged relationship of spaces and objects which here is exemplified by the quantity of space between the vase and the cat and (most obviously) by the imitative curves of the two - mockingly in the case of the cat. The comp and processing are elegent and worthy of a more discriminating croud. |

Trepidationby OzzieComment: One of the few "emotive" or dramatic shots as if from a noire movie. Beautiful bw tones. |

GRACEby PennyStreetComment: I think she's got it. Spectacularly successful shot of the building I worked in for 9 years and shot many times, but this works best because it uses those churning clouds like the wake of a massive ship through a cosmic sea. |

bulldogby PaulComment: I rarely comment but this I had to mention for its impact that just misses - and a solution that my eye ssys is so simple to put the "bull" back in the dog. It needs a crop from both sides to focus more on the dog and give it the monumentality that its pov and pose command. As is, there are too many similar trees that dilute the concept. An 8 for what could have been and a 6 for what is - avg 7. |

Run, cats, RUN!by cginoComment: Understated and effective capture. It has a "second take" effect - three trees sharply dominating the horizon while the cats provide a surprising second theme that comments on and ampiifies the primary theme. It tickles our heads in unexpected ways if we take the time to appreciate the effect. |

Pismo Beach 1by slickchikComment: Very effective use of selective focus within a few feet of the camera to let the more distant surfer take on its elemental form in its environment. By blurring the details, the figure assumes a familiar, even monumental, posture on the beach and in our minds. |
