The toning does, indeed, add a very appreciated nostalgia to the scene. I agree with you in preferring this shot to your entry. The vignette on the other was a bit overbearing to me, and it added a weight that I wouldn't associate with the scene. This shot leaves that lightness of being intact, much to its benefit.

The spotlight effect you've got here just makes this shot. Her illumination, along with that of the wares, are great. I particularly like the left side of the frame, which is illuminated but muted, which pulls us towards her in the back, yet still acts as an effective part of the scene.

What an awesome use of a fisheye. It's so exaggerated and the architecture is such that it almost feels Escher-esque, like the ceiling is curling open above us (sorta like what happens in Inception, if you've seen that....) Very cool.

As a general comment- while it allows you to "change WB" it is not changing it in the truest sense. It is shifting things, and you won't experience the same latitude that you have with a RAW. Same goes for exposure adjustment... you CAN, but it isn't as good. Still good to know, though.
Regarding the photo, I like the calm yet serious expression. She obviously knew she was being photographed, yet it's a very natural look.

I Don't Want to Clean Up

A little more blur on the background would've been nice, since it's so cluttered in the back, because it distracts from the obvious focal point of the photo, but very nice timing. This would, of course, somewhat necessitate a different caption. I could also see this one looking great in BW- the tones on her face look perfect for it. A great capture in any case- that expression is excellent.

This would benefit a loot from us being able to see the fence continue. It gets lost in shadow. In a similar vein, the dog's head is the same color as the background beyond, making them bleed together. I would also consider boosting the brightness of your midtones a bit, since it seems a bit dark (but obviously you couldn't have exposed much higher since the clouds are bright).

While this looks like a jumbled mess of crenulations on the surface of the concrete, it is actually pretty cool visually. What's interesting is the various horizontal levels, which lower my as on a ladder, down the image, but those two diagonal dark lines bring me back up. Interesting effect, like the photo is forcing me to engage in elevator eyes.

Very nice- the line of trees, and their decreasing size especially, pull me into the image. An interesting thing about this shot is that I visually began at the left, which is unusual, since it was the darkest portion and we are normally drawn to light areas. I can only surmise that this was due to the sprawled branches. At any rate, the row of the trees then pulls the viewer into the scene, into the sky that spreads back out with the clouds. I agree with Robert though- initially I completely missed the stream, and I actually thought that the lake was in fact simply lighter colored grass or just illuminated more fully. I'm not entirely sure how it would be possible to make the lake more obviously a lake, or really if that's even in the interest in the photo. Sometimes some ambiguity works, and it's certainly not obtrusive, leaving the viewer wanting, so I think it's alright as is.

Interestingly, my eyes instinctively traveled DOWN, and wanted to go down out of the frame, not up, which is what I would have expected.
