Camera Lucidaby mariucaComment: Very nice, the veritable decisive moment.
Again... I'm forced to echo the comments pertaining to the hands. Such a great defining subject matter. Not just any hands would do for this, and the awkward and craned pinkie really just do it perfectly. I also like how it is aligned with the black frame, and also that there is a frame that serves as a demarcation between her and her subject matter. They are segregated by time, by space, by many things. Great. |

detritusby bohemkaComment: I'm a bit of a sucker for dark BW shots, as you know, and this one doesn't disappoint. But its darkness is interesting in how fleeting it is. It's as though the dark fears the road, is unable to incur upon it's vitality and life. But this feeling of an illuminated path is left lurking beneath the lonely bits and pieces upon the surface, themselves cold remnants of life seemingly past. Reminds me of fairy tales, warning of the dark and scary forest, of the road home.
You said you mostly take photos on the way to and from work... How I'd love to have a commute of this nature :) |

Old Worldby zencowComment: The inanimate watching the animate, still eyes documenting the scurry. The changing of outfits upon the mannequin add even more. I like that the mannequin is sufficiently blurred to keep the viewer from readily ascertaining its artifice. A stand-in compelling us to remember times where we gazed at a steadily changing world, at forlorn days receding into the past, of drops falling upon the pane that we would never see again. Very nice. I also like how there is such a variety of lines, characters, everything within the reflection. Drives home the change and complexity all the more. |

cupby enizmonComment: Excellent abstraction of form. Very nice, splendid in its simplicity. The top rim really adds significantly to the end product. Great shot. |

Jackby colorcarnivalComment: Very nice, Michelle. As others have noted, the detail is great in this, but to me, the strongest aspect is the coy posing. Peering from beneath his hair, hiding within the jacket. It's a reserved shot, one begging for a story even if all that's said is "it was cold that day." The highly exposed cheekbones frame the eyes perfectly, helping to force the viewer towards the eyes. Very nice. |

Tsunamiby loveComment: I like this. The look is haunting, not just for the distortion. I like the title, but I think that recent events have added a subtext to the word (which will of course vanish in time) that distracts the viewer from the image, which is brooding and haunting of its own accord, separate from events. |

non allegorical image #7 by BrennanOBComment: A striking image, no doubt. I honestly can't decide about the apple and depth of field...good arguments for both approaches. The lighting is very nice, interesting. This photo excels at texture, daring the viewer's eyes to creep up and through the crenelations and depth of the photo. At it's heart though, this photo is the gaze, and the rest is simply artifice. |

K-2by tomeComment: The textures on this are killer. Alternating between smooth like an oil panting and edged like the strokes of a paintbrush upon acrylic. Interesting how the kayaker initially doesn't present itself with a coherent form, yet once identified, they spring undeniably from the water. Wonder if this is Tome... in due time. |

Refuelingby scooter88Comment: More of the sort of photo I'd picture seeing in a "normal" challenge here on DPC, but still a very pleasing photo. Nice job aligning your focal plane with the body/wings- opportunities like these don't afford themselves often. |

Factsby raishComment: Strikes me as a self-referential work, a commentary on its own existence. A mundane photo of the mundane postmodern piece. Are criticisms of criticisms empty? |
