I like the composition- it feels rather ordered but the lack of symmetry makes it feel lively as well. The bokeh is doing a bit of odd things due to all the variety in the distances of the subject, with some of the flowers looking nearly ghostly in the limbo between uniformly blurred and primarily sharp (most evident on the far right flower). | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The very rich blacks make this quite the treat, however. An interesting side effect is that, for me, anyway, the image takes on a colder feel than if the midtones were more prominent. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/08/2012 12:43:31 AM | Hill Countryby Yo_SpiffComment: Great use of the winding road, adds quite a bit to this. I also think the facial expression is great, and it's a good usage of the lens for this type of shot. The only thing that I'd note is that it doesn't LOOK that steep. Now, I'm not saying it isn't, but super-wide lenses can really make things look flat when they aren't. That section between the two curves, where the recumbent is, for instance, appears flat or near flat due to perspective. I've struggled with showing angle of steepness in lots of my mountain biking shots- it's really quite frustrating, since I know that it doesn't transfer the experience to those who aren't there, but in my mind I'm thinking of what the hill actually is like. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Your normal edits have far more punch, higher contrast, whereas this has relatively low contrast over the whole scene. Perhaps you've just altered your method, but I think your old method would have worked great for this subject matter/challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Firstly, I like that you went with a bit of a different take than a lot of folks did, not only by doing a night scene, but also by doing one that is blurred.
I like the variety of colors of lights and especially the eerie bit of light on the railing.
One thing, however, is that I wish there was more of a direction/reason to the blur. What I mean by this is that it doesn't seem to be intensifying our sence of motion, or necessarily enhancing the feel of the photo. Otherwise, I feel like your choice of crop works well and is interesting. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Well, obviously, it was received decently well by the voter base, but here's my take.
General Impression: I like the composition- the wall creates a nice leading line that pulls us through the image, down the adspace, and into the tree, which forms a good end to the movement. The tree is lit by sunlight, but not blown, which can be hard to do in a scene like this with shade and sunlight. Personally, I like the presence of the pole, and I think that if you had cropped it off, the left side would've felt too closely cropped or a bit more boring. As it is, the pole has a nice shadow behind it, and functions as a nice natural border on the left.
I do enjoy the processing, myself. It's got a bit of an aged look to it, but not so much as to simply be a instagram type shot that's all the rage these days. It's got a bit of a different take, and is more subtle, which is appreciated. Overall, nothing terribly critical. The bottom right (sidewalk, grass) looks a bit like you had to push the exposure, which increased grain, but it's a minor part of the image. Still, this may have easily been dealt with by selectively applying noise reduction. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Not going to vote, but the humor's much appreciated :)
I like the shot, myself, and had I not known it was yours, I'd have given a 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I'd venture to guess this is from Robert? | Photographer found comment helpful. |
