Planetary defenseby duartixComment: Hello from the Critique Club-
Clever idea for this one- Iâve considered using the lens switch idea for a similar shot with the moon, but have not actually gotten weather to cooperate for what I had in mind (yet). One suggestion that might help you out though⦠for the first exposure of the moon, you should use a piece of black paper/tagboard with a slit in it, which you then swipe down across the lens in order to simulate your own shutter. You can be much more accurate and get better results this way. You can adjust the âshutter durationâ by the size of the slit and the speed you drop it in front of the lens. Then just hold the black card against the lens as you switch. Youâve got a bit of uneven lighting going on with the second exposure, and Iâm not sure if itâs due to the difference in reflectivity of your hand/the handle to the front of the racquet or if your light source was not aligned perpendicular to your subject. Adjusting one or both of these factors will help keep lighting more uniform and prevent your hand from ghosting out. You may also just need to widen the beam by diffusion a bit, but Iâm not too familiar with your flash unit or your subject-flash distance so canât really say. Definitely an amusing subject matter, and I like the take on the challenge. Border is a bit overpowering for me as well.

Her Shoesby geinafetsComment: Hello from the Critique Club-
I made a comment on another userâs similar entry for this challenge regarding fashion vs. advertising, so Iâll just paste that in here too-
âI canât decide what I think of your take on the challenge. I see the relation between your take (advertising) and the world of fashion. Anybody flipping through a fashion mag knows that 95% of the paper is advertising space, so the two are obviously inextricably linked. But is there a delineation? Iâm not really sure, I guess thatâs for the DNMC worriers to worry over.â
Some down voting might have resulted due to this-
As a photo, I like your shot. I feel like the slight desat and lightness contribute to and fit the mood of a wedding, so the processing was very tasteful. One issue I have, though, is your choice to depict the back of the shoes. I feel like fashion is intended to bring the viewerâs attention upon a specific object. The photography is about focusing us upon the object to be sold or flaunted, or even in some cases the focal point is really the model and the interplay between the fashion and the form of the human. But, I feel like the back of the shoe is really neglecting the majority of the item. I think your photo fits within the field of wedding photography very well, but doesnât crossover into fashion quite fully.
Good photo, but a slightly different approach would have fit this challenge better. I do like the shallow depth of field, but would like to see it on the front of the shoes.

The Cageby bvyComment: For being such an indirect and odd choice to depict sports, I think this one is great. It sets itself apart from all those damn baseball gloves and really keeps me looking at all the various layers. Nice. |

The Gladiators' Arenaby DrAchooComment: Hmmm.... is this the Doc.... feels like it may be...
One of the better arena shots. Arena doesn't suffer from terrible shadows and sky has good detail. |

Batter Up!by aberrationComment: There are tooooooooooooooons of baseballs and gloves hanging around in random places, but this is surely the best of them I've seen so far. Nice use of light to focus the viewer on the equipment. The silhouette of the backstop is nice too. |

pre-game warmupsby pointandshootComment: Interesting shot- it seems as though things are bit more distorted than I'd prefer. Somewhat difficult to discern the needle, so I was running through my head what other things the pills could be sports wise. Once I saw it, it's really obvious, but it wasn't initially (not always a bad thing). |

On the Courtby blackgriffinComment: I think I'd like to see more of the net and court... open things up to the left maybe? |

Fear and Loathing on League Nightby e10icusComment: I definitely think getting the camera lower to the ground and utilizing those great vanishing points on the floor and between the lanes more would help this one out. That and the ball return is a bit of a sore thumb distraction. |
