Ancient Roadby onarComment: I like the border for web display. Can imagine others who don't. The brightness is on the ruin not the road, but I like the image overall. |

Death by Barneyby Art RoflmaoComment: My 2-year-old saw this just now and became so serious believing it! Now she's walking around repeating, "He's not really dead" after my attempted explanation. |

MilLion Tracks unoby wavelengthComment: I agree with Rikki, the halo around the guy could go and the crop could be tighter. The shirt overpowers the face a bit, I feel. Otherwise, you've got a very striking portrait here. |

t-know.jpgby crystaldmComment: When you expose, try and get details in all parts of the photo unless you're deliberately going for some effect. In your image processing software, you can make the darker bits lighter and vice versa.
In this kind of shot, if you try to get details in the trees, you might easily end up blowing out the sky. There are a number of ways around this problem. The easiest (not DPC-safe) is to put your camera on a tripod and take the exact same shot twice at different exposure settings, one that gets details in the trees (a longer exposure time) and a shorter time for the sky. Then, blend the two images together in your computer. Another method is to buy a split-density filter. This tool has a darker top which cuts out the light at the top only and allows for a longer exposure. |

windmill.jpgby crystaldmComment: Basically, the composition is good, but the subject is a bit boring. Sorry. You could wait until the cloud patterns are really interesting, shoot again, then dodge and burn the photo until it becomes striking. |

pink.jpgby crystaldmComment: The composition is good here. You use the rule of thirds well. You've also got a good DOF, which helps separate the flower from its background. The negative bits for me are: 1. The focus seems a bit off; 2. The background is dark which kind of depresses the overall feeling of the photograph; but the biggest point is that the treatment of the subject is a bit bland. You need to find something special about the flower, get right in, concentrate on an aspect of its form, use a filter to blur and romanticise it. Good luck with your photography. |
