While I understand from your title that you were going for a simple look, the end result seems a little bland to my eyes. The texture of the bread is a little plain and the DOF seems too shallow. Without the title, I'm not sure I would recognize it as bread and not a sponge or loofah of some sort.

Some additional side lighting might help to bring out the texture.

The overall picture seems a little dark to me. I like the restricted DOF, but I wonder whether focussing on the exposed internal texture of the bread at right might make for a more interesting textural study.

I think this might benefit from a slightly deeper depth of field, so that the orange wedge could be in focus and provide a textural contrast to the bread. I also wonder whether a slightly higher point of view might add to the setup.
