FEAR is the darkest BLACKby jmritzComment: Initially I rated this shot very low, I did not like this guy... on second look I asked myself why I did not like him, it's cuz he is creepy...or at least the way the shot was processed made him look that way... he is like a nightmare image, and I find it disturbing to look at him, even as I comment, granted I can't watch horror movies either, too sensitive, but in fairness to you, you have made me 'feel' nothing good mind you but I think you deserve credit for producing such an emotive image.... |

Focus On Happiness by labudsComment: Greetings from the CC, well congrats on your ribbon to start! I am not sure what I can say to critique your photo to be honest, it is sharp, clever i.e. reversed smiles, well composed. Technically it is very well doen and the voters aptly rewarded you for it. I think in response to your comment, despite having been 'done' your twist of expressions really boosted this shots originality. I also think whether or not we get rewarded for trying a technique that has been done before, they can be very beneficial in learning and that is what this site is about. I have learned a lot from trying things and then when I am ready to take a more 'me' shot I have the technical know how to accomplish it... so do not feel bad about learning things here! Very well done, my favorite part of your shot is the composition of the drops of happy faces, very well placed, excellent work keep shooting and congrats again!! |

On Edgeby crabappl3Comment: Greetings from the CC, what a delicate subject you have chosen! The monochromatic feel IMO certainly gives a simplicity and a focus to the bubbles. The sharpness of the foreground bubble is excellent, demonstrated in the clarity of the window reflection, a lovely detail that I am glad was lefy in the shot. The composition is also delightful the lower bubble behind and the amount of emptiness in the top half of the shot work very well together to be pleasing. I like the sharp bubble being on the left (vs. right often where 'focus' is). Mostly the solid blue background and the disappearing bubble in the back really do add a feeling of depth to your photo..which is exactly IMO what the challenge asks for... well done, and glad the voters rewarded you accordingly..keep shooting! |

Nature's work of art!by trainComment: Hi greetings from the CC, well you did a fabulous job on the mushroom in this shot!! Voters did not seem to mind that that DOF was minimal in the background. The DOF is certainly well contrasted with the extreme sharpness of this well composed mushroom. Just because your comment suggests uncertainty about DOF, it is achieved by aperatures being low numbers i.e. 4.5 will give you a very shallow DOF and 22 will give you more focus both in fore and backgrounds. Manual focussing I find helps to highlight the subject of your choice in focus. Hope that helps, you seemed to 'get it' without needing the tech explanation on your own...keep up the good work... oh and the lighting in this shot is very good, excellent detail! |

Skin Deep by moodvilleComment: This is one ugly sucker..lol but boy does he have textures, and it is a very well done shot, my only slight critique would be the black area is lacking in detail, of course very hard to get detail in black. My favorite shot I think in the challenge, good luck..great color and DOF too |

Let me GO:by oksamitComment: Aww, what a cutie, very good job, I love that you have a 'friend squirrel' watching in the background. Thats a pretty high fence to must have some quality nuts on the other side waiting for him... : )
Well done! In my top 3. |

Goodbye Old Friendby lykofosComment: Good use of sepia tones, very well done and interesting image, I like the black glove and the simplicity of the cross...the icy scene adds to the feeling of loss. |
