Ready to Rideby dahvedComment: I don't think, for myself, that a bright shiny subject is particularly enhanced by the sense of dirtiness and rough texture that the grain brings to it. The impression one is left with is of an overlay of noise, rather than a co-operative part of the image. |

Massey Hallby gg3rdComment: Difficult to strike a balance between the obscuring of detail and the amount of grain, and to second guess the voters on that count; to my eye, you've gone a little too far - and perhaps your choice of subject isn't particularly suited to the style. Although the grain adds some5hing to the sense of texture in the stone, it also, particularly in the sky area, becomes plainly just noise patterns rather than a particular enhancement. For myself, I think I would have tried to fill the frame with this image, which would give the advantage of only affecting the sense of stone. |

Magic Ringsby jgriecoComment: Amusing trick; for me that's perhaps not quite enough of itself. I wonder if there isn't a slight lack of enough fine detail for the majority of voters - the image could perhaps be 'cleaner' in noise terms and slightly more contrast might help - deepen those 'shadows' a touch? |

Negligently concentricby jjbeguinComment: I was just browsing through all these shots over morning coffee, not bothering to vote; this, just, arrested that progress - close run thing, but I wasn't paying all that much attention. It's the composition - I wish I understood it a bit more deeply, like much of your recent stuff; I can sense the typical shapes and relationships, but would be hard pressed to say precisely what the key elements would be. |

no titleby GnarfComment: Nice photography - just enough - only just, but enough - differentiation to resolve the snow and the whitewash. |

This is the land the sunset washesby AdiGriComment: The large border and small inner image suggests a sense of 'art' be considered in this image - like a gallery presentation; but I don't get it. I don't see anything I haven't shot and rejected a thousand times myself. It has a certain mood, I suppose. A feeling of late winter, perhaps. I'm struggling to find anything to say about it. |

23by ergatesComment: I just don't get the use of colour for images like this: to my eye, it removes all sense of dynamic, of action, of expression. It becomes clinical, too carefully observed and selected, cold, in the end, meaningless. The light is, of course, dreadful - as in any kind of sports hall situation.
I know it's actually a very strong action photograph: perhaps I just don't have the slightest interest in action photographs. Whatever the reason, I actively dislike this image, and I'm struggling to know why. Something here doesn't engage me, for sure - I'm wondering if that is simply the light, the flatness, featurelessness of it, the fact that the background is just as bright as your subjects, the lack of sense of contrast in light. The composition, framing, upsets me too - the available space image left seems to dismiss the presence of the green figure, almost telling me to focus entirely on the power, the sense of success, the aggressor in the girl shooting; almost as though the girl in green were incidental, only included to avoid cropping some part of her body out of the image. I don't understand.
Just don't understand. |

Paradise Cityby renefunkComment: Well captured, but not an outstanding moment, nor so very unusual a viewpoint that it brings anything interesting to this sunset. Good progression of colours in the clouds etc., but just isn't different enough to be striking for me. |

Sliceby BugzeyeComment: Too much going on for a really eye-catching still life? The star-fruit looks unappetising, and just doesn't have the shininess you've managed to give to the other fruits. |

Closed For Remodelingby smardazComment: I'm starting to wonder whether the gamma settings on my monitor have slipped, or something. The midtones here seem quite compressed, I'd love to see a greater sense of the fine detail that expanding them a little might bring to this. |
