Hi Tony,

Greetings from the Critique Club! Again! As you may or may not know, we are given an image to critique randomly, so I guess I was lucky enough to get yours again.

In this image, I see two ducks, male and female mallards. They are lit by an overhead light source, the sun, and seem to be walking from right to left in the frame.

I enjoy how the two birds are facing the same way; patterns like this are all around us, and it takes a photographer's eye to spot them. The challenge theme was "Best Friends," and this pattern does indeed suggest friendship. Also, the association of the male and female birds reinforces the challenge theme.

The light is a bit harsh on the birds, and perhaps a bit bland. I got a tip from a famous photographer once who told me that his best shots were all captured within 20 minutes of sunrise or sunset. Applying this to this photo would have perhaps livened up the subjects. Interesting light is one thing that really enhances a photo remarkably.

Your point of view seems to be from a standing position, looking down and across onto the ducks. Again, this is a pretty standard point of view, and experimentation with different and unusual points of view may be worthwhile.

As was mentioned below, the object in the upper left could possibly have been cropped out, or you could have put yourself in a higher position to avoid it when you shot.

It might be fun to experiment with different moods when you shoot. This is a pretty standard, up front, objective mood, created by the sunlight and point of view.

Keep at it! Again, if you have any questions of me, please ask!

Cheers,

David

Striking photo. Colors are lovely and rich! Composition is right on leading to a well balanced, engaging photo. NeatImage or some other software may have been used a bit too much? Nice work! 9

Very clear and lovely photo. You might try widening the shot to provide some negative space at up and right. Nice tones and focus.

Really graphic and engaging photo. It looks like you have a bit of motion blur in it, though. 7
