Red Hot Dreamby GraciousComment: If this were focused on the right things: the leg and candy instead of the metal jar part, this would be such a great image. Really creative and fun idea! |

Where's the Alka Selzerby sherryk471Comment: From the title, you suggest that this dog feels ill, though he doesn't look it. Still, there are clues in the many wrappers around him/her. |

Have a biteby EJComment: Nice work. This image, with its clues of gold and crystal, suggest that chocolate is enticing and something to be desired. The lighting could enhance this, too, if it were not so bright, perhaps. |

Classic Candyby AnachroniteComment: Nice pattern here, suggesting perhaps that either candy can come in endless supply, or that it is mass produced in a mysterious (ala the lighting) way. The lighting is nice and mysterious, taking our thoughts beyond the image itself, though the harsh light right in the middle distracts me somewhat. Nice work. |

Can Dby GeneralEComment: Clever visual pun! The touch of candy in can D is the perfect touch. Appears scientific, except that the letters are cartoony, so instead we get a cartoony scientific, with strange things possibly afoot. Nice work. |

Japanese Rice Crackersby mbardeenComment: Yum. I love these things. While many here will not consider these "candy," I think that they fit the challenge well in Japan, and that's good enough for me. |

Pick Your Colorby GolferDDSComment: Wonderful colors and pattern here. The lighting is well done, too, illuminating the colors but not over saturating them. I wish these candies were all in better focus. |

measuring piby tomzinhoComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
This is a nice image addressin the pi challenge. I concur with all of the compliments below!
I like the scientific tone this photo, created with the calculations and instruments, as well as the excellent lighting. I mentioned below that I thought the yellow tape measure took away from this slightly, perhaps because the tape measure is not a very accurate instrument relative to pi or the other objects selected for your photo.
As someone else noted, the arrangement is loose, perhaps a tighter arrangement with a closer point of view would enhance the feeling of precision and intricacy. I hope you realize that these suggestions can come because it is a strong image already. The composition and focus are superb, and the little touches like the tape going around the round object make this an intriguing and engaging image to begin with.
The lighting is also appropriately cool and scientific. I like how the calculations were done in a fine point pen.
I look forward to seeing more of your work! Good luck!

pi by marboComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I concur with all of the compliments below! Including my own!
This is a superb shot with a difficult subject, but here is why I think it works so well:
It is simple, and you suggest a lot. The way the numbers vanish indicate the infinitity of pi, and your use of B/W is appropriate and adds interest. Your point of view, with the numbers tilting off, enhance the interest as well. The cleanliness of line and contrast of B/W create a suggestion of mystery as well, taking our thoughts beyond the photo and into the realms of mathematics and their incomprehensibleness, yet seeming simplicity. Again, the simplicity of the image is both appropriate and ironic.
What can I say? This is a marvelous shot. Star sending it to math textbook companies!
Thanks,
David |
