Lighting - Great, but does give the fingers a shiny look. Putting a see-through cloth over this would have softened your light a bit. You also have alot of focus on the back of your hand and your third finger. Adjusting the lighting just a bit would have put more emphasis on the heart, or where your hands connect.
Subject - Very cute, good shot. The back pinky looks a litte squished and the knuckles are a bit wrinkled. Next time, curve your fingers a bit more around his hand to eliminate this.
Background - Excellent, I also love the soft fabric your hands are resting on!
Suggestions - maybe a little bit of softening. This is such a tender photo, but the the lines are a bit harsh. If you can use blending and softening (so you don't see the pores in the hand, etc) you would have a more romantic result.
Overall, a great creative photo that I would have scored a 6-7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Well, this is going to be a quick critique, simply because I saw your "after editing" photo. You did a GREAT job editing, and it's too bad it wasn't allowed in the challenge. Excellent subject, great idea, gorgeous reflection. I really did like the edited version. Great job. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

LIGHTING - Excellent, no glare or odd focus.
SUBJECT - Very cute idea. Wonderful focus on the humorous "quotes"!
CROPPING - Great way to fill the page, but you might want to crop down just a tiny bit, ending at the top of the tin. It looks too much like there's something beyond the tin.
SCORING - I think the only reason this scored below a 6 was the limited interest of voters. Candy hearts are something we are all used to seeing at Valentines day, both in advertisements and in stores. As nice as this is, it might not have seemed "unique" to many voters. Don't take the score as a negative, though. It really is a very GOOD shot! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Nice shot and very original.
LIGHTING - Excellent but a bit too bright on the bow and too dark on the finger. Covering the lens with a see-through cloth would have worked well here, as would moving the lighting down just a bit (would correct both problems)
CHALLENGE - It does meet the challenge, although it goes a little towards sex instead of love. That's just being nit-picky though!
SUBJECT/CROPPING - I think this shot would be more impactful if the fingers were untying the ribbon, instead of playing with it, but that is completely a personal opinion. You need to either move the thong up to create white space at the bottom, or crop the white space out of the top.
PRESENTATION - The tones you used are perfect for this photo. You obviously have a great eye for black and white. The lace would have been more prominent on a black background.
Overall, a very good photo and original idea. Well done! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Thanks for the explanation! I'm a bit embarrassed! Okay, let's try this again. By the way, you are very lucky to look so darn young (I just hate people like you! just kidding)
First of all, when I first saw this, I thought it was a child kissing the hands of his parents. It looked very "nuzzled" and pure, so I didn't even consider it was you. I'm sorry about that. I don't want you to think I didn't love it, because I did. In fact, this particular photo gave me millions of ideas for family portraits, so either way VERY WELL DONE!!! There are so many possibilities with this photo, which proves it's a wonderful shot.
LIGHTING - As you mentioned, the lighting could have been a bit better, but it still works for this mood. Again, the focus is on the ring, and I still would have moved it in just a touch. Looking at it now, it does work for this though!
FOCUS - Just a touch grainy, but it works for this. YOUR eyes seem a bit dark giving you a bit of a sad, reflective look. Again, lighting would correct this. This could be what you were after though. To brighten the mood, I would put a little more light by your eyes. The profile is nice because you caught your eyelashes on the other side as well ( a lot of people have a hard time capturing the other eyelashes, so that's fantastic)
BACKGROUND - Thanks for staying with a solid color!! I think this would look stunning on black with soft light as well.
CHALLENGE - I still see this as a gorgeous family shot. I love your lips on the back of his hand. It's funny, because I see this as innocent love, nothing sexy or overly romantic, just very pure and innocent which I really like.
TOUCH-UPS - After the challenge, if this is a photo you are considering keeping, you might want to adjust the lighting, and hide the stray hair floating in the back. Really, this one was hard to critque because I love it. Well done! Message edited by author 2003-02-26 10:19:28. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Okay, I have sat here for 5 minutes now, and I just honestly love this picture. Great lighting, wonderful subject, so original, and very fun to look at.
Your aperture, shutter, etc were great, and it looks like your score did fairly well. I personally think it should have been a bit higher.
As far as changes - maybe brighten it up a bit, and show more of the pencil. Also, if you look at where the broken pencil is, it did not just complete a line. By placing it at the end of a line or sketch, it would look a bit more realistic.
Overall a great shot, very original, and well done! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
