Death of a Hummingbirdby smardazComment: A very emotive capture! Not many stop to think about the death of a hummingbird. They are beautiful and fragile creatures that are universally loved. This shot shows the beauty gone. The darkness in the shot replaces everything that was once bright and full of life and color. The drops on the glass are as tears. Even the vertical strut is crooked giving the feeling that something is terribly wrong.
High marks from me on this one. I hope this one doesn̢۪t just get tossed into the middle of the pile because it isn̢۪t the typical portrait of a hummingbird. Good luck with this one. |

Primary Feathersby noranekoComment: Wow! Artistic and an unsusal application for desaturation. Very nice work! This is my favorite of the challenge at this point. This will be hard to beat. 11 |

The landscape painterby hkvamComment: Researchers found that 2,177,888 people suffered ladder injuries from 1990 to 2005. With that, I wonder how you were able to get to those top branches with that little step stool.
There is much to like about this one, It is a clever shot indeed. 9 from me. |

The Blue Dragonby jeannybeanyComment: Excellent use of the de-saturate technique!! I'm sure a thigh, a breast or a wing might have given you a couple extra tens this week. A 9 from me, It is a great Idea. |

Baby Bluesby LeeDComment: Excellent shot! What did you do to make him so sad? You should be ashamed of yourself.
;P
This has great detail, tone values and placement. I think it's difficult to snap a picture of person and have it display such strong interest to a total stranger. This is something I aspire to and you've acomplished with flying colors.
Speaking of colors..... I think the eyes might have worked better for me if they were ever so subtle. The blue is just too deep and un-natural and really takes away from the mood of the shot.
When I see a de-saturation technique used in a photograph, I always ask myself... why was it used and does the end result look better than if the technique hadn't been used at all. I am using this thinking in my voting for this challenge. This would have easily been a 10 in another challenge. For this challenge it is still an impressive 8. It's a great capture. |

Candy Lipsby glodaComment: I really like this image. I think simple red lips might have been just as effective. High marks from me. |
