If you have a PC, try the Gimp. It's a free Photoshop clone. It doesn't have some of the really fancy tools, but it'll definitely get you started, and did I mention it's free?

The idea is good, but it looks like the saturation is pushed and the sharpness required for this shot just isn't there.
