This one has too many distracting elements. Maybe reducing the depth of field to blur the background (lake) elements might have helped, but I think you would need to shoot from a different vantage point to achieve this shot effectively.

Oh.. so much potential! This image has a lot going for it, but is held back by a few things. firstly (and easily fixed) is the wonky horizon, which is most noticeable on the water line. Water is always perfectly horizontal, so it is an easy fix with a rotation of the image. The other thing is the placement of the tree. I suspect it was partially-cropped like that in the original frame, but if not, then it was cropped too harshly for my liking.

I know you needed the tree to fit the challenge, but I think it is unnecessary to the image in general. I think the image is beautiful with just the boat, the birds and the sunset. I'd also clone out some of the buoys.

HDR done well, and gorgeous colour! I find the subject matter a bit boring though. Your selection around the tree is a bit sloppy - I can see a green halo on the high- contrast bits.

That is totally bizarre! Extra point for the fascinating example, but I find the image a bit flat sorry, due to harsh lighting and soft focus.
